For more than a century, Greenwood has been known for its quality college preparatory program. Today Greenwood continues to provide advanced learning opportunities from kindergarten through twelfth grade to equip students for college success. Instilling learning qualities and thinking skills that will last a lifetime prepares our students for whatever the future holds.

Our mission is to support Missouri State University as a laboratory of best practices in teaching and to prepare students who are knowledgeable, creative, caring, and engaged citizens. Our vision is that our students will become citizens of enhanced character who are:

    • Competent in their abilities to contribute to society,
    • Sensitive to the needs of their community,
    • Committed to civic engagement, and
    • Civil in their habits of thought, speech, and action.

Inquiry learning and critical thinking are paramount at Greenwood. Little time is devoted to rote memorization or lower-order thinking skills. Students learn in modern ways. State-of-the-art science laboratories are available for kindergarten through high school. Electronic textbooks are used in most core subjects fifth grade and above, while kindergarten through fourth-grade use i-pads. All Greenwood teachers are certified in their assignment areas and have at least a master's degree. Collaboration occurs with MSU professors. Greenwood high school students take college classes and graduate from Greenwood with a university transcript of courses they have taken from MSU.

People are often amazed at the benefits that are offered within a small school environment. Faculty and staff know all the students. The students know their classmates and know and work with students in the other grades, too. Our mission is to support the University and create knowledgeable, creative, caring and engaged citizens.

Greenwood secondary students, grades 6-12, moved into their new Silver LEED-certified Science Scholars' Laboratory in the fall of 2011. The facility houses two state-of-the-art laboratories, offices, study nooks, and a student atrium. At Greenwood, K-12 students have state-of-the-art science laboratories and learn using the latest technology. Students in fifth grade through twelfth grade use electronic textbooks for many core subjects. Kindergarten through 4th-grade use i-pads in the classroom.

Ever-changing technology is used to enhance our students' hands-on experience and encourages students to explore topics thoroughly. Integrating new technology into classroom learning is crucial as a laboratory school and Greenwood strives to meet our students' needs, our experienced educators, and the college students training to become teachers. Greenwood K- 5 students have their own Science Scholars' Center and Science teacher, unique to the region. Elementary students attend the Science Center for classes.
