Collegiate School

Collegiate is divided into Lower School (Kindergarten-Grade 4), Middle School (Grades 5-8), and Upper School (Grades 9-12). Each division has its administrative head and core faculty. Many faculty members teach in more than one division of the School. The students and faculty enjoy a small-school environment's advantages while benefiting from the stimulation a college preparatory school can provide. The atmosphere at Collegiate is shaped by the close interaction of the student body and a sense of community within the School.

Collegiate is a founding member of Interschool, a consortium of eight independent schools working cooperatively to develop programs and activities involving students and teachers from the participating schools. Programs sponsored by Interschool include an annual College Night for juniors and their parents, the tenth-grade trip to Frost Valley, and meetings of special-interest groups to exchange ideas and organize events. The Interschool member schools are Brearley, Browning, Chapin, Collegiate, Dalton, Nightingale-Bamford, Spence, and Trinity.

From Kindergarten to 12th grade, our boys' curiosity, energy, and passion radiate throughout the School. We expect our students to take their academic responsibilities seriously but to possess sufficient humility so that they can laugh and not take themselves too seriously. We expect those very same classrooms to be defined by respectfulness and civility. We aim to be a community that strives for its students to seek academic and personal excellence. Those goals are of great importance to the faculty: they are fundamental.

With approximately 650 boys in thirteen grades, our size encourages strong, supportive, resilient, and trusting friendships among the boys and between the boys and their teachers. The School's culture of kindness, respect, and generosity helps foster an ethos rooted in partnership and collaboration.

Our location on the Upper West Side of Manhattan means that we can extend our classroom to include the full range of New York City's rich offerings. We recognize, too, that we must play an active part in contributing to New York City by helping to meet the needs of our fellow citizens, locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Statement of Beliefs:
