Yesodey Hatorah Girls School is a three-form entry, Charedi orthodox Jewish maintained Voluntary Aided girls secondary school located in Stamford Hill, in the London Borough of Hackney. We serve the Jewish communities of Stamford Hill and its wider area.
Our core values and ethos, guided by the Rabbinate of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregation, discourage the use of online communication and Internet use wherever possible. This site, therefore, holds only statutory and other basic information about the school.
The school is rooted in and firmly based on Torah values which are combined with the National Curriculum to offer a broad and balanced education. Central importance is given to The Charedi Jewish identity. This underpins all aspects of the school. Learning experiences provided will be rooted in the tenet of Torah observance and based on guidance from the Rabbinate of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations. Emphasis will be placed on Tznius (modesty), self-discipline, excellence, and creativity. Teaching will be informed by purposeful and careful assessment of need. We favor mixed ability teaching and recognize that for some areas, for example, mathematics, girls will be grouped into sets according to ability. All aspects of achievement, the academic, creative and personal are valued. The curriculum will be supported by a skilled and responsive staff team working with shared approaches to teaching and learning.
The promotion of respect and good middos and behavior is an integral part of the school’s ethos. The Behaviour Policy exists to support this aim both during and out of school hours, where a pupil's behavior adversely affects the reputation of the school. This policy should be read in conjunction with the school’s Exclusion policy. The focus of this policy is on positive measures which can be used to encourage and reinforce good behavior within the school.
Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls School strives to educate all its pupils within an environment where the Jewish traditions of learning, truth, justice, respect, and community are promoted. Consequently, the overall aim of this policy is to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children in our care. We aim to provide a safe environment in which children can learn and develop. Our policy applies to all staff, governors, and volunteers working in the school.
Yesodey Hatorah School is a school with religious designation which exists to meet the needs of Charedi Jewish families who desire a Charedi Jewish education for their daughters. The school seeks to provide a broad and balanced education based on Torah values combined with the National Curriculum. All Charedi girls will be expected to abide by the principles and ethics of the Charedi community as guided by the Rabbinate of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations, and all other pupils will be expected to respect the observance of Charedi principles by Charedi girls while in school or participating in school activities and behave accordingly. The highest possible standards of mutual respect between all pupils are a critical part of the School’s ethos.
Yesodey Hatorah is a community and all those directly connected (staff, governors, parents, families, and students) have an essential role to play in making it safe and secure. Yesodey Hatorah recognizes our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children. Yesodey Hatorah recognizes the importance of providing an ethos and environment within school that will help children to feel safe, secure, and respected encourage them to talk openly, and enable them to feel confident that they will be listened to. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection, and justice.
The school is aware of its obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and complies with non-discrimination provisions. Where relevant, our policies include reference to the importance of avoiding discrimination and other prohibited conduct. Staff and governors are regularly reminded of their responsibilities under the Equality Act, for example during meetings. Where this has been discussed during a meeting it is recorded in the meeting minutes. New staff receives training on the Equality Act as part of their induction, and all staff receives refresher training every August. The school has an equality link governor. They regularly liaise regarding any issues and make senior leaders and governors aware of these as appropriate.

Our ethos and values are to provide high-quality education and support to the girls within our community. All girls will need to abide by the principles and ethics of our Charedi community. To be part of the school community you must lead an extremely modest way of life dictated by the highest moral and ethical values. Every aspect of school life is governed by the codes of Torah observance. Students are expected not to have any access to any inappropriate media and parents will ensure that their children have no access to the internet and any other media which do not meet the stringent moral criteria of our Charedi community. Girls will also dress at all times by the strictest standards of Tzinus (modesty) as laid down by the Rabbinate of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations. Our Charedi community is guided by the authority of the aforementioned Rabbinate.
