At Woodgate, we encourage respect for democracy and support participation in democratic processes. Democracy is the basis on which the law is made and applied in Britain. Through the democratic process, citizens can influence decision-making in Britain. Our School Council is one way in which the democratic process is modeled in school. Different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, but all people living in Britain are subject to its laws. It is sometimes called the ‘law of the land’ and everyone must live by it. It is the same with our school code and school rules. The rule of law protects people, ensures wellbeing, and keeps them safe.
We define respect in the school’s core values. The school community agrees it is our most important value. School furthers tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions by enabling pupils to acquire an appreciation of and respect for their own and other cultures to understand that each individual is unique and to recognize and explore our differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. Tolerance is accepting yourself, even when you’ve made a mistake. Tolerance is accepting others, even when they’ve made mistakes too. Tolerance underpins our school code.
