We have committed to having a shared responsibility to the wider school community, through the provision of high-quality education and the improvement of life chances for pupils in the community beyond that of our own three schools.

Our ambition is to provide the best possible primary education in stimulating and creative environments. We want to develop a passion for learning, inspired by high-quality teaching, developing and building upon individual strengths and talents. We expect all children in our schools to reach age-related levels, in line with national expectations, as a minimum, and we aim to ensure that the barriers to learning are removed so that every pupil in all of our schools reaches their full potential.

Our leadership structure aims to make the most of our shared resources, maintain high expectations, and secure high standards. The strategic overview of the partnership is led by myself, and each school is led by a highly effective Senior Leadership Team, who have the skills and experience required to motivate, inspire and drive our schools forward.

We value the opportunity to introduce you to Woodberry Down. We are confident that you will find a school where standards of behavior and respect are given a high priority, and where every child is motivated to learn and to have high self-esteem.

The core purpose of the New Wave Federation is to provide the best educational experience for every child together with outstanding achievement. This will be achieved by engaging in learning opportunities that develop, stretch and excite the imagination.

We consistently perform at a level higher than that of other schools in the borough. Please see the tables for analysis of our results for the last academic year. A progress score is determined by comparing the KS2 outcome of a pupil at a school with the KS2 outcome of other pupils nationally who the same results as that pupil in KS1. Average Progress Scores are an average of the progress scores for each pupil in KS2. A positive score means that children in that school, on average, made greater progress than those children nationally who had similar prior attainment when they were in KS1.In all our schools the progress score is positive. This means the New Wave pupils, on average, make more progress than their peers nationally (with similar prior attainment).

Many of our children join Woodberry Down in the Nursery, aged three. A place in the Nursery does not guarantee a place in the main school but children meeting the Local authority’s entry requirements will move on to the reception where they will be joined by children new to the school. You are very welcome to visit us before enrolling your child. Please contact the school office to arrange an appointment when a member of the senior leadership team will be available to show you around.

We provide a resourceful and excellent start to early learners in our 2-year-old provision based within our school. Please click on the link below to see if you qualify for 15 hours of free child care. If you meet the criteria and are eligible you will be issued with a reference number which you can bring to the school office to arrange an admission into this provision. Pupils who are 3 years old can make an application to the Nursery in our school. A place in the Nursery does not guarantee a place in the main school but children meeting the Local Authority’s entry requirements will move on to the reception where they will be joined by children new to the school.

Woodberry Down Primary School is governed by Hackney’s admission procedures. Full details of the admissions criteria and a copy of the admission form for Reception are available on the Hackney Learning Trust website.

At Woodberry Down Primary School we consider good attendance to be essential. Children are expected to attend school every day throughout the academic year unless there is a good reason for absence. Full attendance is vital for every child’s educational progress. The school regards absences as a very serious concern and there is an overwhelming connection between those pupils who are frequently absent and those who go on to underachieve in their future.

Our approach to the curriculum is to provide the highest quality provision, utilizing the skills of all our staff, to inspire all our pupils to achieve their full potential. At Woodberry Down Primary School we believe that assessment is fundamental in enabling teachers to extend and challenge our children’s learning, supporting them in reaching their full potential. Our school incorporates assessment into our teaching strategies as an integral part of teaching and learning.

Woodberry Down Primary School offers a variety of exciting and enjoyable clubs which range from sporty, artistic, and musical to dramatic arts. At Woodberry Down, we have clubs that explore language and culture, food, and the environment. Children have fantastic fun, make new friends, and develop skills, interests, and talents.
