Whitehall Infants is a special place where the staff is dedicated to providing a stimulating, exciting environment where everyone feels valued and safe, ideas can flourish and pupils can realize their full potential. Whatever the needs of your child and whatever special interests they have, we aim to ensure your child thrives at Whitehall Infants feeling safe, having fun, and enjoying success.
Whitehall Schools, working in partnership with our community, are committed to providing quality education in a safe, supportive and stimulating environment. We value each person and encourage everyone to achieve their full potential. Our work as teachers begins by building on the numerous qualities and skills that you have fostered in your child at home.
Parents are always welcome at Whitehall Infant School and are positively encouraged to become involved in school life in a variety of ways. Some parents like to make a regular commitment to help in a classroom others prefer to encourage their children at home by sharing books while some become involved with the Parents’ Association. Others do all three!
As soon as your child joins the school you automatically become a member of the Parents’ Association. The Parents’ Association exists to work in partnership with the school, to represent parents’ views, and to operate as a fundraising body to generate funds for the benefit of the children allowing them to enhance their school experience with additional activities and entertainment. The PA organizes fairs and social events for our families and keeps in touch with regular meetings and communications via your child. The degree to which you become involved is optional but being part of the Parents’ Association brings you closer to the school, is a great way to meet other parents, and can be very rewarding.
At Whitehall, there are opportunities for everyone to participate in whatever way suits them best. Your support is greatly appreciated and a source of encouragement to all the staff of the school as well as the children
All our class groups have children with differing levels of ability in them, including children from different home backgrounds and those with special educational needs. While children are in class, the teacher may organize them into working groups according to their ages, interests, or levels of capability. This is to ensure that we are fully meeting the needs of all our children.
Our school curriculum turns our aims into actions through the activities provided in school. Each day presents the children with a variety of experiences. Many of these are relevant to more than one subject and most teachers use a theme or topic approach to link subjects such as - Technology, Information Communication Technology, Geography, History, Art, Music, Science, Physical and Religious Education. English and Maths are taught as separate subjects following the guidelines of the Department for Education (DfE). In addition to these subjects, the children also learn about personal health and social education (PSHE), equal opportunities, and environmental education.
Our expectations involve encouraging respect and care for all people, their feelings, and their property. This is perhaps the hardest thing we ask of children at such a young and active age. Self-discipline and consideration of others are not always easily acquired. We are firm and use behavior reinforcement to encourage good behavior and manners. We have a robust Behaviour Policy incorporating ‘Behaviour Steps’ which are available to view on our website and displayed in all of our classrooms and areas in the school.
