Tollcross Primary School is situated within Edinburgh city center and welcomes families from a wide variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Tollcross Primary School, as we see it today, is situated on the site of the former Municipal Slaughterhouse of Fountainbridge. The slaughterhouse was right on the curbside but it was decided to set the school building back from the road as it allowed Fountainbridge to be widened. The only part of the original slaughterhouse, which is still standing today, is what we know as the Janitor’s House. The ornate “Egyptian” style frontage was taken down and stored, to be re-elected at a later date.
We are very proud of the warm, caring, and inclusive ethos of our school and value the achievements of all our learners. Our pupils show great pride in their school and are keen to learn, participate and achieve. The whole staff team works together to support all pupils to develop as confident individuals, successful learners, responsible citizens, and effective contributors.
At Tollcross, we believe that children learn effectively when there is a genuine partnership between home and school. We welcome the opportunity to work with parents/carers and value their support and involvement in their children’s learning.
