Our school is a caring, happy, well-ordered Christian Community. The RE Inspection Report (November 2015) states that St Thomas More is an Outstanding Catholic School both for Catholic Life and Religious Education.
The time at primary school is probably the most important in your child's life in terms of their personal development. We will provide a caring environment for your child, and give a wide range of balanced learning opportunities for all children to achieve high academic standards, to develop their God-given potential to the full, and grow into independent and responsible people.
Our Catholic Faith is central to the day-to-day life of our school and all aspects of the curriculum, and pupils are encouraged to recognize the importance of their faith and they respond to all forms of liturgy and collective worship with respect and reverence.
Our Parish Priest regularly celebrates Mass in school. Each class has its celebration of the Mass and the children are involved in the planning and participation of the celebration. In addition, we celebrate Whole School Masses at the beginning and end of term, our school feast day, holy days of obligation, and other significant occasions.
We use the curriculum strategy for Religious Education in the Catholic Primary Schools of the Archdiocese of Birmingham Learning and Growing as the People of God. It makes learning about our faith lively, interactive, and relevant. There are numerous opportunities for cross-curricular activities that link with and often stem from RE lessons.
At St Thomas More Catholic School we provide a creative curriculum based around the Cornerstones Curriculum. Since the new National Curriculum was introduced by the Government in 2014/15, we have been working hard to refresh our school approach and provision for the pupils. As part of this work, we have implemented the Cornerstones Curriculum, a nationally-recognized approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children. We are developing our curriculum to ensure engaging and positive learning experiences for the children.
