At St Mary’s Catholic School, we place Christ at the center of all that we are and all that we do. We aim to promote the fullness of Christian life through an education in which faith, culture, and life are brought into harmony, creating a community based on the Gospel values of love, care, and respect. This harmony within our Catholic school community forms the basis on which our children will develop the values, the motivation, and moral conviction that will enable them to act wisely and make sound choices in life.
We aim to provide a comprehensive, coherent, and high-quality education for every child by offering a wide, varied, differentiated, and relevant curriculum, as well as developing their appreciation and understanding of the Welsh cultural heritage, language, literature, and history. We teach the Catholic faith through the National Catholic Religious Programme, Come and See, and our faith permeates the whole curriculum and life of the school.
We believe that education is a partnership between parents, the school, the parish, and the wider community, and we seek always to establish an open working relationship for the good of all our children. Our priority is to create an environment where every child travels a journey of faith, grows in self-esteem, learns to love and respect people of all cultures, creeds, and lifestyles through our Mission Statement: ‘Living, Learning and Growing in Christ’s Love’.
When the young children enter school at the age of three until the age of seven they are taught through the Foundation Phase. The Foundation Phase is about enhancing the learning experiences which enable children to be creative, imaginative, and to have fun whilst learning. Children are given opportunities to explore the world around them and to understand how things work through engaging in relevant practical activities which are fun and enjoyable and relevant to their developmental stages. The Foundation Phase places greater emphasis on experiential learning, active involvement, and developing each child’s skills.
