St John Baptist High School aims to provide for all pupils a full and balanced range of educational opportunities, which recognizes their value as individuals and which will help to provide a preparation for adult life. Furthermore, we aim to help pupils to find within the fellowship of the Church in Wales a faith by which to live and which is shown in their dealings with others.
St John Baptist Church in Wales Voluntary Aided High School. Our School is mixed 11-18 years, with over 1000 pupils. Our sixth form is vibrant and has over 200 students. We aim to develop our pupils into well-rounded young people, who are happy and well educated and believe that high attainment surrounded by faith and love is the correct basis for learning and development. Visitors, to the school, including ESTYN inspectors, frequently comment on the courteous, helpful, and polite manner of our pupils.
During our Estyn inspection in 2014, the current performance of our school attained the highest accolade by being judged as 'Excellent'. The school's care, support, and guidance for pupils, outcomes, and standards, and resource management were also judged as excellent. Pupil behavior was described as exceptional, with pupils having the most productive working relationships with teachers. We are very proud of these achievements and believe they reflect the hard work and commitment of pupils, staff, governors, and parents/carers.
Our Christian ethos is at the heart of our school life, and acts of worship are inspirational. Local clergy are regular visitors at the school and preside at its worship. Inspectors judged our distinctive Christian character and impact of worship as 'Excellent'.
We provide the highest quality learning and teaching that enables pupils to achieve the highest possible results. We have a wide range of courses and extra-curricular activities which support pupils in their development. The school occupies modern, and well-equipped premises on an extensive and attractive site at Glandore, Aberdare. This site includes the school’s extensive playing fields and is adjacent to the Dare Valley Country Park.
