St Brigid’s is a Roman Catholic Primary School under the trusteeship of the Diocese of Salford. It is maintained by Manchester Authority. As a Voluntary Aided School, the Governing Body is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for taking decisions on applications for admissions. The coordination of admissions arrangements is undertaken by the Local Authority. For the school’s year commencing September 2016, the Governing Body has set its admissions number at 30.
The Catholic Faith and the Teachings of the Roman Catholic Church have an essential role in school life and influence every aspect of the Curriculum. We ask all parents applying for a place here to respect this ethos and its importance to the school community. This does not affect the right of parents who are not of the Faith of this school to apply for and be considered for a place here.
The pupil premium is a grant given to schools for each child who currently claims free school meals or has done so in the past. We use this money to support individual children and groups to make progress. We make sure that it impacts the children positively by improving their literacy and mathematical skills, as well as their social and emotional well-being.
Physical education develops the children’s knowledge, skills, and understanding so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics, and outdoor adventure activities. Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting, and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus we enable them to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.
At St. Brigid’s R.C. Primary School we are committed to helping every child to grow and develop in the love of God and others, recognizing the unique nature of each individual’s needs. Our Mission Statement, Creed and aims of the school emphasis the central role of Jesus plays in providing a foundation on which our school’s life and work are based, and where the 5 W’s (Word, Worship, Witness, Welfare, and Welcome) play a vital part of our daily lives. Religious education within our school complements and is underpinned by this mission and in partnership with home and parish, provides a setting for the development of a sensitive and reflective attitude to life and opportunities for living and sharing our faith with the wider community.
The DfE have recently reinforced the need "to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs."

As a Roman Catholic school, we are committed to developing an inclusive ethos, underpinned by policies and practice. These are maintained and developed by the Special Education Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, liaising with the SEN Governor, parents, and families.

At St Brigid’s we value each person as a unique individual created by God. It is our aim that everybody reaches their true potential and therefore has very high expectations of behavior. This policy is written in the light of the gospel and our school mission statement.
We believe that people respond and thrive best when they are praised a lot. That is why at St Brigid’s, we have a ‘spot people being good’ policy. This is the most important strategy and should be evident in all that we do as adults. We also believe that adults should model the behavior they wish their pupils to aspire to. In other words, all adults will lead by example. Behavior management should also be age-appropriate. Everyone needs to be consistent in managing behavior by this policy. This also promotes pupil well-being and helps to build self-esteem and an ‘I can’ attitude amongst all our children.
