Children at Riverley experience a broad and creative curriculum full of enriched learning experiences to develop a love of learning. We are committed to widening our children’s horizons through exploratory and investigative learning that opens their minds and engages them with new and extraordinary ideas.
The creative curriculum allows children to apply their learning in different contexts, therefore embedding and consolidating skills. This love of learning and depth of knowledge is promoted through our school-wide themes, meaning that all children access learning on an individual, class, and whole school level. The Griffin Schools Trust vision of Proud Traditions, Wide Horizons, and High Achievement underpins everything that we do and supports our aspirations and ambitions for all our pupils. Our environment is used as a positive space to ignite curiosity and raise aspiration. Everyone must have a sense of place and feel they belong to be productive, successful, and reach their full potential.
We aim to create an environment that expects and promotes positive behavior as the basis for effective learning. The expectations are designed to focus on positive actions, that demonstrate respect, rather than what children should not do.
However, as an inclusive school, we recognize that all children are individuals with specific needs. Therefore, within this consistent approach, there is an element of flexibility to address the needs of specific children. Teachers use a consistent system within daily teaching to promote positive behavior and develop effective behavior management skills. Our positive system in the classes helps to promote this consistency. Our whole school values (Creativity, Ambition, Responsibility, and Empathy) were chosen by our pupils and ensure that pupils understand what and why positive behavior is expected in school.
