At Ranelagh, we expect all children to arrive at school ready and prepared for the day of Learning ahead of them. At first, the parent is organizing the child but as they get older they should be encouraged to take increasing responsibility for getting themselves ready to learn.
Your child may need special help at some time in their school career. This may be for physical, learning, or behavioral needs. Ranelagh has an inclusion team that includes high-quality staff who are trained to meet the needs of these children and can support teaching staff, plan and resource a curriculum suitable for all children’s needs. Ranelagh is a multi-cultural school and many children require support with English as another Language. We have a team of staff who provide children with extra learning opportunities to speed the progress of children accessing the language.
As part of the Children and Families Act 2013, Local Authorities are required to publish a ‘Local Offer’ which sets out the support that is available for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in the local area.
Newham’s Local Offer is available on the Newham website and tells parents how to access services in their area and what to expect from these services. Alongside this, schools are required to publish information about their arrangements for identifying, assessing, and making provisions for pupils with SEND.
In response to this, we have put together our Local Offer for Ranelagh Primary School. It describes the arrangements we make that are ‘additional and ‘different’ for pupils with SEND. This SEND information reflects the current arrangements we have in place at school to identify how we provide for and monitor children with any special educational needs. This Local Offer will be reviewed annually.
Our Curriculum allows our children to have a breadth and depth of knowledge. The core subjects are taught separately, but where possible, links are made so that the learning is put into context. The Ranelagh Curriculum ensures that the skills of the foundation subjects are taught in an innovative and inspirational manner. We provide our children with a broad and balanced curriculum that is not only relevant to their needs but is rooted in experiences that allow our children to ‘be the best that they can be.'
As you are aware, Ranelagh believes in fostering and promoting independent learning. We teach history, geography, DT, art, and music in an innovative and inspirational manner, centered around our children's ideas. Pupils are encouraged to explore and express their thoughts about what they want to learn and this is then planned into the curriculum. All pupils at Ranelagh, from EYFS to Year 6, express their thoughts and ideas about what they want to learn. This is then forged into their very own unique 'Ranelagh Curriculum.'
Aspiration, creativity, and inspiration are at the root of the Ranelagh curriculum. Children are encouraged to express themselves creatively, by using their imagination and developing their ideas. Experiences are embedded within the curriculum this allows learning to “come alive”. Children have a rich diet of educational visits these include visits to museums, the ballet, the opera, the theatre and, also, opportunities to visit other countries. Every child from Year 4 is allowed to learn to play a musical instrument. All children have the opportunity to perform in front of a wide range of audiences from Sharing Assembly, in front of their family and friends, to local theatres in London and even the Royal Festival Hall. We recognize that school plays an important part in community life. We endeavor to involve members of the local community in our various events and our learning. Ranelagh is a school in which the whole community is proud.
