Our team of staff, parents, carers, and governors are committed to providing the highest quality education to prepare our students for their adult lives, offering the challenges and opportunities needed for unlocking your child’s potential. We are a three-form entry up to Year 6, with a 52 place nursery. The school offers a full set of extended services, including an active PTA – Friends of Oswald Road (FORS), and an energetic and committed team of Governors.
We aim to support all members of the school in developing their capabilities and self-esteem through a challenging curriculum delivered by highly qualified teachers and staff. We aim to produce well-rounded boys and girls with a love for learning who are instilled with a sense of community and the skills to become exceptional citizens.
Oswald Road Primary School has a 54 place Nursery. Our school's Nursery Staff, who care for the Foundation Stage, are committed to providing a high quality of teaching, and learning to our youngest children - and importantly, to giving them a happy start to their school life. We believe that the foundation stage should allow children to develop their creative and investigative skills in a way that is enjoyable, stimulating, and challenging. Through nursery and reception years, play activities are carefully planned and resourced to provide the best learning experience for all our children. The curriculum is focused on supporting and promoting children's all-round development - in areas ranging from personal, social, and emotional wellbeing to mathematics, language, and communication. In this way, the nursery aims to ensure that all children are well prepared for their transition to reception year and that ultimately our children will leave the foundation stage confident, independent, and ready to take on the world that awaits them.
Our well-resourced classrooms are a balance of consistency and individuality, where there are many opportunities to develop independence and learning outdoors. They are a place where children feel valued and nurtured, where not knowing is learning and where risk-taking and mistake-making are celebrated. There is a culture where learning extends beyond the classroom and embraces the 21st century.
We ensure consistent communication between all members of the school community. Our Key Stages are integrated and have opportunities to link up through the use of team teaching and enrichment projects. There is a wide range of creative opportunities throughout school and a variety of clubs for the children to access. Well-organized lunchtimes and playtimes are purposeful and engaging for both children and staff, with opportunities for both active play and calm space. All new members of staff are given clear guidance and support to accelerate children’s learning and all areas of the school are cared for collectively. Creativity, risk-taking, and independence are fostered within our caring, inclusive, and well-resourced environment.
When a child joins our school, we do not just welcome them but their whole family. We encourage community involvement, including a range of school clubs led by members of the community, and in turn, take pride in celebrating the school’s achievements and sharing our facilities within it. As a school, we would like the children to know and value their place in not only the school and local community, but also nationally and globally and we celebrate the diversity of our local area. Our school actively involves itself in charity work and there is a developed understanding across the school of Rights and Responsibilities.
Oswald Road has been allowed to take part in a new project that will run in partnership with Manchester Safeguarding Board and Greater Manchester Police. Operation Encompass is a Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership that supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse. Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous evening.
The information is given in strict confidence to a school’s Key Adult to enable support to be given dependent on the needs and wishes of the child.
Schools must consider the safety of confidential/personal data removed from a school site (electronic and paper). Ensuring that ALL staff is aware of how to handle sensitive or personal information and their responsibilities when accessing data is vital and this section guides staff training and recommendations.
School behavior targets will be displayed around the school for all staff to encourage. As part of our commitment to encourage pupil's voices, the 'Behaviour Working Party' and the 'Rights Respecting Team' helped to develop this behavior policy and were consulted on what rewards should look like in our school. A Parent forum was also arranged to gain input and suggestions into the new behavior system to ensure that all stakeholders had managed to have a valued contribution to produce a policy and guide behavior consequences so that they are clear, appropriate and that they meet the needs of our children, community and vision for a school on its journey towards Outstanding.
