Martin Primary School was opened in September 2007 after the amalgamation of Martin Junior School and Martin Infant School.

Martin Primary School is a large school and is in the process of transforming into a three-form entry school.
We strive for excellence in all curriculum areas and seek to develop children's talents in the arts, music, and sport as well as in English and mathematics. Our curriculum is challenging and offers learning opportunities to all children. We are committed to providing a safe, secure, and stimulating environment within which children can grow, develop and learn.

We recognize that children learn best when they are fully and actively engaged in the learning process, which means ensuring high-quality learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. As a team, we strive for excellence, putting children and their learning at the heart of all we do, so we help to create well-rounded individuals with fond, fun memories of their time at Martin Primary school.
We keep confidential records of work undertaken and the progress of pupils, including observations and agreed targets. We have undertaken Drawing & Talking Therapy which is a way of engaging children and helping them work through any issues away from a classroom environment. This is currently being implemented with positive results. We run Social Skills groups for children across the school which encourages friendship, problem-solving, anxiety management, building confidence, and helping children take control and deal with change.
We also deal with ad-hoc friendship issues (daily) so that this is kept away from the classroom and learning time. (Bubble time Year 3 and Talk Time Boxes). We supervise both playgrounds from 8:30 am every morning and 3:35 pm every afternoon. We also stay with the children who are late to be collected and monitor those who are frequently collected late. We run a daily lunchtime club for children who find it difficult to be outside for long periods.
We implemented and oversee the school house system, where children receive points for good behavior and work and are rewarded throughout the year. We oversee the School Council meetings fortnightly, where two children from each class discuss a variety of topics that relate to the daily running of the school. We accompany classes on educational visits as well as school journeys with Year 6.
We are available to support parents when needed. We have full team meetings every Friday with Mrs. Waterman and Ms. Jerrard. We review new referrals, current caseloads and support each other with ideas on how best to work with referred children. We handle sensitive information from school, home, and other agencies, and confidentiality is respected unless a situation presents as a safeguarding issue when the designated school safeguarding officers will be informed. We provide opportunities for children to talk in confidence, within the framework of the school policy for disclosure and child protection.
