We believe passionately in the power of an excellent education to transform lives and provide new opportunities for young people. We provide an exciting and challenging experience for our students in a supportive and caring environment.
The proof of our success is demonstrated by the quality of the daily experience we provide for young people. We have the highest expectations in terms of teaching, learning, and the standards our students achieve. We work on the principles that every child can be successful.
At Manchester Communication Academy, we understand that the transition from primary to secondary school is one of the most important stages in a child’s education. We work closely with local primary schools to ensure that arrangements are in place to support pupils as they make this significant step. The Year 7 curriculum and the pastoral support program help every student to make the best start to their secondary education.
Manchester Communication Academy is open to all girls and boys of all religious and cultural backgrounds. We are proud of being a truly comprehensive, mixed High School serving our local community. Admission to Manchester Communication Academy in all year groups is through the Manchester Admissions Office and follows current City Council policy. Our school is a true reflection of our local community. Our students are expected to live and work together in a respectful and high-achieving atmosphere.
Within Manchester Communication Academy, we provide for a social mix whilst practicing ability grouping within the curriculum, in many areas, from Year 7. Students are regularly assessed and monitored and can move up or down into appropriate groups.
Once you have been awarded a place at Manchester Communication Academy your child will be invited to an Induction week during the Summer Term of Year 6.Your child will meet new friends and together you will have exciting lessons in several subjects, some of which will be new to you. Everyone will have lunch together and you will sample some of the food you will be able to choose each day when you start in September.
Parents and Carers are invited to Induction Evening. We hope that this will be the first of many opportunities to meet you. On Induction Evening you will meet with key staff that will look after the well-being and successful progress of your child. Progress leaders, Heads of the House, the Principal, and Vice Principals all look forward to Induction Evening, which marks the beginning of a new partnership between Manchester Communication Academy and each new family. If for some reason you are unable to attend we are happy to arrange an individual meeting.
British Values are vital to the mission of MCA. The principles of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs, are integral to the life of the Academy. These are not only included in the academic curriculum but inform relationships between students and staff are the basis of inter-staff cooperation underlie home-school interaction and community participation and are always salient in the formation of Academy policy and procedures.
The design of the building is around large flexible learning bases with a separate specialist provision such as practice areas for science, creative arts, and fitness. The timetable has core provision from years 7 – 11 in six faculty areas – Maths, English, Creative Arts[ includes Technology], Global Understanding [includes history, geography, RE and MFL], Science and Health & Wellbeing – PE, fitness, and cookery]. Last year these groups were reorganized to reflect the new exam requirements into Pot 1 [Eng & Maths] Pot 2 [Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, and MFL] whilst Pot 3 encompasses Creative Arts, Health & Wellbeing, ICT, and Design. The timetable allows for 3 x 2-hour sessions per day from Monday to Friday lunchtime, with whole year groups in a faculty, with a team of specialist staff. All year groups are set and banded according to ability. There is an extensive program of extracurricular activity including study support and all students are required to attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week.
We believe that parent/carers play a vital role in your child’s education and that a pupil’s success and development is built upon a successful partnership between home and school. Manchester Communication Academy maintains a high level of contact with parents/ carers throughout the year. Members of staff will often write to parents, contact them by telephone or invite them in to discuss issues of importance about their child’s welfare and progress. Likewise, we encourage parents to contact us if they have any concerns they would like to discuss, following the MCA guideline and protocols
Here at MCA, we value the role parents can play in supporting their child’s education. Once a term, you will be invited to a progress review evening to meet with your child’s progress and subject leaders and discuss how you can support your child at home and have a positive impact on their learning. You can talk with us about any concerns you may have and any additional support your child may need. If you cannot attend the evening we will contact you by telephone to discuss further.
