Established in 1495, Loughborough Grammar School is one of the UK’s oldest independent schools. We are proud of our long and successful heritage. We delight in those traditions that keep the spirit of the School alive without constraining us from embracing modern-day life.
Here at the Grammar School, academic achievement is our central focus, as examination grades open doors. However, our ambition is much broader: Grammar School boys are intellectually curious, self-motivated, and acutely aware of their responsibilities towards others. Skills and attributes developed through the extraordinary range of co-curricular clubs and activities that punctuate every single day. Our boys are equally at home in work and play, and acquire the moral compass they require to become not only successful professionals but perhaps more importantly empathetic colleagues, friends, and partners.
We offer single-sex education because we believe that boys focus better on their education and learning in a boys’ only environment. Based on a mixed-sex campus there are plenty of opportunities for boys and girls to interact. They travel to School on the same buses, they enjoy Music and Drama together in our state-of-the-art facilities, and they share common extra-curricular activities such as CCF and academic societies.
We equip boys with a broad portfolio of skills that allow them to excel in public examinations and access the top universities and the courses of their choice. More than that, our curriculum trains our boys to be independent learners who love study and have the self-discipline and motivation to aim high and to realize their potential.
We have always believed that education is about so much more than what is learned in the classroom and our GREAT Men initiative is drawing together our whole community to talk meaningfully about masculinity.
In an era when it can be tough to be a young man, we lead our boys through the maze of adolescence to become good role models who show integrity and judgment. So much more than another department, Loughborough Schools Music is the joyous soundtrack that infuses life at all the Schools within the Foundation.
Housed in a purpose-built space, it is a vibrant musical hub with a constant creative buzz. From Pre-Prep to Sixth Form, every pupil has the opportunity, encouragement, and very finest tuition to explore their musical passions, achieve their very best and perform at the highest level.
By any measure, facilities are outstanding. We are proud to be the only Schools in the Midlands to have a Music department with ‘All-Steinway School’ status and we have a huge variety of instrumental ensembles and choirs so every pupil gets to ‘strut their stuff on one stage or another.
