Lathom Junior School is situated in the heart of east ham and is a large four-form entry key stage 2 school in a magnificent Victorian building, built-in 1897. At Lathom, we believe that all our children deserve the best education we can give them. We work hard to create a successful learning culture that will enable pupils to become informed, confident, enthusiastic, inspired, and independent learners for life.
We have developed an ethos where we continually try to spark children’s interest their quality of learning is central to the school's work and purpose. At Lathom, everyone is committed to ensuring that all aspects of life are safe for everyone who uses our site. Children’s safety and welfare are paramount. We seek to provide an environment where all children are safe, secure, valued, respected, and listened to.
We will take all reasonable measures to ensure that the risk of harm to children’s welfare is minimized. Where we have concerns, we will take appropriate action to address those concerns working in full partnership with other agencies.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we ensure that all staff are aware of and have the skills to deal with any safeguarding or child protection concerns. Robust recruitment procedures and regular training/professional development programs ensure that there are a strong culture and ethos of safeguarding throughout the school.
Our school reflection reminds our children that, for our school to be a safe and happy place, we must live and work alongside people from all backgrounds and cultures. Our children know and understand that respect must be shown to everyone and to everything, whatever differences we may have. Children learn that their behavior choices affect their rights and those of others. All members of the school community are encouraged to treat each other with respect. Our participation in international movements, such as Black History Month, supports this teaching, allowing children to develop awareness and appreciation of other cultures teaching in RE enhances our children’s understanding and respect for different faiths and beliefs.
