Great Barr Primary School converted to academy status in September 2012. This conversion will offer us an opportunity for accelerated improvement, with the school having greater control over its future. We are not a school that stands still we constantly reflect on current practices, review their impact and effectiveness, and implements new ideas and strategies that enhance the learning experience of our students.

We know that you will want your child to grow and learn in a happy, safe and caring atmosphere where they will be treated as an individual. We enable our children to gain confidence, self-discipline, and self-respect as well as respect for others. We provide a wide range of learning opportunities and expect every child to do their best at all times.

We aim to help children become fully developed caring people, capable of working in every way to the best of their ability. Our work, as a staff is to continue to build upon those foundations begun at home, playgroup, or nursery.

    We aim:

    • To create an ethos that provides for maximum learning and effective teaching. to provide a secure, safe and stimulating environment that enables the children to be healthy.
    • To encourage children as individuals to develop lively and enquiring minds through all aspects of the curriculum.
    • For children to be responsible, independent, and confident individuals aware of the richness and diversity of their multi-cultural society.
    • That child will respect and be respected in the world in which they live through their personal development and well-being.

We endeavor to achieve these aims in a happy and purposeful atmosphere in which children will be inspired to thrive as excellent role models in our society. Inclusion is the process of increasing the participation of children and young people in their communities. As far as education is concerned, the process of inclusion aims to ensure that all pupils should have full and equal access to a mainstream curriculum.

Great Barr Primary School aims to consider all the needs of every individual pupil and respond to those needs to form a coherent program of opportunities. The school develops and maintains links with special schools and the relevant support services. Pupils of all abilities, and disabilities, have so much in common and benefit from shared educational experiences.

    Aims:

    • To allow every pupil to experience success and achieve as high a standard as possible.
    • To overcome the potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils.
    • To facilitate the transfer, where appropriate, of pupils from special schools to mainstream education.
    • To enhance the opportunities for pupils to develop their social and academic skills alongside mainstream peers.
    • To promote inclusion within the local community.

Differentiation is achieved through tasks set for differing ability groups. It is supported by careful assessment and pupil tracking procedures, which will allow realistic targets to be set for individuals and/or groups of pupils.

Where appropriate learning objectives for individuals and/or groups will be taken from the years above or below. Wherever possible we aim to fully include Pupils with Special Educational Needs in all lessons. When planning, teachers will address the pupil’s needs through simplified or modified tasks, with appropriate resources, adapted where necessary, including the effective use of support staff.
