At Dundonald Primary school we provide a caring, safe and supportive environment committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children. All posts are subject to DBS, reference, and other checks. Children are eligible for a nursery place in the school term after their third birthday. Dundonald Primary School has two nursery classes (morning and afternoon) with 26 children in each class. We offer nursery intakes in September, January and April. Please note that the majority of places are allocated in September and January. Application for a nursery place should be made online to the London Borough of Merton. Paper application forms are available from our school office. Dundonald Primary School currently holds Level 1 of the Rights Respecting School (RRS) award and is aiming for the Level 2 award, which is the highest level of the RRS award.
Rights respecting values and language are included as part of lessons, playtimes, assemblies, and all aspects of school life. A key focus for us is the importance of helping children to achieve their full potential and to become responsible local and global citizens. Dundonald has a Whole School Charter, a Playground Charter, and each class has its Class Charter. The charters consist of a visual set of rights, selected by the children, as well as ways to respect those rights with actions that are linked to school life. These charters enable children to engage in open and fair discussions with each other, and with adults around the school.
Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy reflects our belief that every child has the right to feel safe and protected from harm. The school has the statutory duty to 'safeguard and promote the welfare of children and will ensure the provision of a safe environment in which children can learn and develop. The school follows the child protection procedures set out by the Merton Safeguarding Children Board (MSCB) and takes account of the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (September 2016) that has been issued by the Department for Education (DfE). The school works closely together with the MSCB and other outside agencies where we believe a child's health or welfare is at risk. If parents/carers have any concern about the health and safety of their child at this school, they should share this information with an appropriate member of staff straight away.
The Pupil Premium (PP) is additional funding that publicly funded schools receive to support the learning of students from low-income families who are either eligible (or have been eligible within the past six years) for Free School Meals (FSM) or are children in Local Authority Care (LAC) who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. The purpose of the Pupil Premium is to help support those students from low-income families to ensure that they make progress at an equal rate to their peers.
Children are eligible if they have registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years. The introduction of free school meals for all reception and KS1 children may mean that it is more difficult to identify those children who are still eligible for pupil premium. London Borough of Merton has launched an initiative to collect information on all families at the school, so that they can identify eligible families themselves, including those whose circumstances may change over time.
