Our whole school community - children, parents, staff, and governors - is justifiably very proud of our school and its successes. These successes are evident both in the academic standards achieved and in the excellent curriculum on offer to the children.
We aim to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment in which each child can thrive and develop their interests and talents. Parents' active participation in this process is essential and that is why we place such an important emphasis on working in partnership with parents.
At Corpus Christi School our priority is to our children so that they receive a high-quality education where enjoyment and enrichment are at the core of their learning experience. We aim to ensure that they have a love of learning for life as well as helping them to grow into confident and well-rounded individuals. Our values and ethos have been devised by the whole school community, including staff, governors, parents, and children, and are based on the idea of the school community being part of a FAMILY (faith, aspiration, motivation, independence, love, you are unique). These key values reflect those elements special to a Corpus Christi child.
Corpus Christi School exists to serve the Catholic communities of Brixton Hill and its neighboring parishes. We are here to educate our children to the highest possible standard in a community that has the gospel values, traditions, and beliefs of the Catholic Faith at the center of its ethos. In all aspects of the school, Christian values will be upheld, with an emphasis on respect, helpfulness, unselfishness, and co-operation.
At Corpus Christi, we deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, which is based on a variety of topics throughout the academic year. All foundation subjects are taught around a specific theme, which is in line with the National Curriculum links are continually made to the core subjects.
As a school, we continually review our provision and respond to local and national events, enabling the children to gain a greater understanding of the wider world. Most recently, the children have explored, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Centenary of World War I, and the Olympics. As a school, we believe the children respond well to our topic-based approach. They are provided with opportunities to raise questions, which encourages them to become inquisitive learners. Our rich and vibrant curriculum promotes a love of learning.
Children with special educational needs are supported and extended first and foremost by their class teacher. There is also a team of specialist staff at the school including the SENCO, an autism specialist, a literacy support teacher, and a speech and language therapist who support children. The school also has many highly trained TAs and LSAs in the fields of autism, occupational therapy, and dyslexia. Ongoing CPD is part of the special needs program at Corpus Christi, for staff and parents of children with special needs. The school also has links with a local autism center and buys in support and advice from an educational psychologist.
