At Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School, we recognize, not only the importance of helping students to flourish academically but also spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally, so they are fully prepared for life in British society and for their role as citizens, able to make the strongest possible contribution to the Common Good. We teach the importance of British Values by going much deeper into the meaning of what it means to live a good life, within a framework of Catholic Christian Values. This provides the context and meaning for understanding why British values are important.
Our framework for understanding British values draws on the example of Jesus and his welcome and inclusion of all, which is developed in Catholic Social Teaching. At Cardinal Heenan, we provide an education that focuses on the formation of the whole person and our vocation and purpose in life. We are guided by our Mission Statement 'Respect, Believe, Achieve,' and by the Christian values of honorable purpose (that is, vocation and service), respect, compassion, co-operation, and stewardship as we reflect on our place and purpose in the world. We place a significant emphasis on the celebration of individuality and difference within our communities and our calling to work for the Common Good, in the service of others.
The year group is split into two parallel bands, East and West, each comprised of five classes. Core subjects (English, maths, science, RE, and PE) can set pupils independently of all other core and non-core subjects within each band.
Students are set within each band for non-core subjects (history, geography, Spanish, computer science, art, music, drama, design technology, and food technology) based upon performance at KS2.
Cardinal Heenan operates from a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre which we share with our neighbors, Broughton Hall High School.
It opened in September 2012 and features first-class facilities including science labs, ICT suites, quiet study areas, and a large canteen.
We aim to create a friendly, safe, and supportive environment where all of our students enjoy an excellent standard of teaching, access to a wide and challenging choice of courses, and the guidance needed to ensure success.
We also offer a program of exciting and engaging enrichment activities. Entry to our Sixth Form is open to students who have a genuine wish to continue their education beyond the age of 16.
We offer a wide range of academic and vocational subjects and take pride in our consistently strong results. Our most recent Ofsted report rated the sixth form as good, where “learners…achieve well and the provision is very well led and managed.
We encourage our students to continue into further and higher education, training, or employment and support them whilst they are with us to make the best possible choices and decisions for their future.
