The school is almost non-selective and yet achieves better results than many more competitive schools. The holistic approach to education, where equal value is placed on academic achievement and soft skills, produces extremely confident young women who grow up to believe they can be whatever they want to be.
Burgess Hill Girls is an Excellent rated Independent school for girls aged 2 and a half to 18 years of age. Whatever the stage at which your daughter joins Burgess Hill Girls you can be confident of two things: that she will be known for who she is as an individual and she will be provided with an outstanding, transformative education of the whole person.
Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer, Athlete, Designer, Actor. These and many more careers are the dreams and aspirations of girls today. At Burgess Hill Girls we will provide your daughter with the skills and opportunities to achieve these dreams through an educational experience that is second to none.
Burgess Hill Girls has a fantastic history of success, a unique honesty, and an environment that will allow your daughter to flourish and become the very best she can be!
Our school motto, ‘I am, I can, I should, I will’, conveys and underpins our whole approach, identifying and releasing the potential of your daughter as she proceeds, giving her the very best possible opportunities to become a successful woman of the future.
As parents, success will be having a happy and healthy daughter who loves going to school, loves to learn, loves participating, and can make friends for life. For the girls, success may be doing well in lessons and tests, being part of a team, playing a musical instrument, and having fun with friends. Here at Burgess Hill Girls, we are exceptionally proud of unlocking the academic talent that is found within our girls and strongly believes each individual will thrive in our high-achieving environment. Whilst Burgess Hill Girls aims to provide the very best opportunities for everyone to excel, we believe that success is more than obtaining the highest marks and grades. We recognize just as much all those fantastic qualities that are not materialistic or target-driven. Success at our school is when we produce bright, confident, and independent young women who have and will continue to achieve great things.
There is no glass ceiling at Burgess Hill Girls! Whilst the academic, technical, creative, and emotional support is incredible, the breadth of opportunities and enrichment available is extensive. There is something for every member of the whole school community and if the girls desire more we have the ‘can-do approach to make it happen!
Our school stands on 14 acres of beautiful grounds within a conservation area close to Burgess Hill’s town center. All aspects of the school are located on this one campus Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep, Senior, Sixth Form, and Boarding Houses. The school is only a five-minute walk from the railway station (on the London to Brighton line) and close to excellent road networks (10 miles from Brighton city center and only 20 minutes from Gatwick) the school is easily accessible for local and international students. We also provide a daily minibus service for girls across Sussex and beyond.
The benefits of all-girls schools on academic performance are well documented, both in terms of higher grades and ‘value add’ a measure of pupils’ improvement in grades due to the education they have received. This is certainly true at Burgess Hill Girls. In 2019 we were one of only two Sussex Schools to make the ISC’s Top 100 UK Schools based on GCSE Results. An impressive performance considering we accept pupils with academic profiles of the national average and above and support them in selecting GCSE and A-Level subjects of their choice. Our ability to add value to students’ academic results has also been noted by the Good Schools Guide: “The school is almost non-selective and yet achieves better results than many more competitive schools.”
The Governors of the School are responsible for planning the strategic direction of the whole School. This is achieved in concert with the Executive Senior Leadership Team, who are then expected to implement the strategic plan through a school improvement plan and individual departmental plans. The whole Governing Body meets approximately four times a year with several sub-committees meeting three times a year before each Main Board meeting. The Governing Body is also required to confirm that the School is compliant with all relevant legislation and for providing governance oversight of the School’s day-to-day operations. The School is registered as a charity and therefore, the Governors are also Trustees of the Charity. They are also responsible for recruiting the Head and the Bursar.
