Brent Knoll is a Cooperative Trust special school for children aged 4 -16 with complex social, communication, and interaction difficulties including autism. Situated in a brand new multi-million-pound building designed and built with the needs of young people with autism very much in mind the school boasts superb specialist facilities. The school is fortunate to have a highly skilled and experienced staff team that provides a very high standard of education and care.

A wide range of therapists provides support for pupils and expert guidance for staff. Therapies offered at Brent Knoll include speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, art therapy, autism movement therapy, music therapy, play therapy, and psychotherapeutic counseling. The school works in partnership with specialist Educational Psychologists who provide expert advice to the school and parents on a range of issues such as behavior and learning.

Our vision is that in three years Brent Knoll School will:

    • Be the first choice for children and young people with social and communication difficulties
    • Have a local and national reputation for excellence in all that we do with a focus on Teaching and Learning
    • Be a school where our young people self-regulate to enable them to be safe, to flourish, and to succeed with independence
    • Ensure that our young people transition to appropriate destinations with the skills and qualities needed to be as independent as possible

To achieve our vision our aim is that each young person will:

    • Value themselves and respect others
    • Develop responsibility for their actions
    • Make informed choices and decisions independently
    • Develop the resilience to become a responsible and active citizen in their community

We will achieve our aims by:

    • Working together as pupils, parents, governors, and staff within our community to be an outward-looking school
    • Having a relentless pursuit of excellence in all that we do
    • Offering a broad, balanced, and appropriate curriculum meeting the needs of its learners delivered by passionate and reflective practitioners in a motivating and nurturing environment

    Underpinned by our values of:

    • Responsibility
    • Respect
    • Kindness
    • Fairness
    • Honesty

Brent Knoll School is committed to serving its community It recognizes the multicultural, multi-faith, and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom, and therefore those it serves. It also understands the vital role it has in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalization by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.

The school as a Cooperative Trust accepts admissions from all those entitled to an education under the SEND Code of Practice, including pupils of all faiths or none. It follows the policies outlined by its governing body regarding equal opportunities, which guarantee that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. It seeks to serve all.

The Government emphasizes that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools. The government set out its definition of British values in the ‘Prevent Strategy’ – values of:

    • Democracy
    • The rule of law
    • Individual liberty
    • Mutual respect
    • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

Should you feel that the school is not meeting this requirement, you should contact the school office and request to express your concerns with the Headteacher. Likewise, if you feel that anyone working at the school is, intentionally or otherwise undermining these values, you should report this to the Headteacher. The school does, though a wide range of activities, secure such standards and uses strategies within the International Primary and Middle Years Curricula and the National Curriculum to secure such outcomes for children.
