Bishopshalt opened in 1907 when Middlesex County Council established Uxbridge County School (our original name). The school now occupies the site and grounds of a former Victorian mansion and its name was taken from the house where, for 500 years, the Bishops of Worcester rested or halted in their property while making frequent trips to and from London.
Bishopshalt is a mixed 11-18 Academy in Hillingdon, West London and we are committed to individual excellence, ensuring that all students fulfill their potential. We believe profoundly that we provide real care for the students at our school and they know that we expect them to care for each other. The school is a very supportive environment we give students the skills and confidence to be successful and to make a real contribution to their community.
A happy and harmonious school is the best environment in which to enable a child to realize their potential. At Bishopshalt, we place great emphasis on supporting the successful transition from primary to secondary school. The induction process, underpinned and sustained by our caring pastoral system ensures that this support continues throughout the whole of the child’s school life. Year 7 students quickly feel part of the whole school community and gain confidence as they mix with older students and flourish as they access the wider curriculum and the enrichment activities available to them.
At Bishopshalt, we are proud of our sense of community spirit and we actively promote our students’ emotional health and well-being. It is our aim for students to develop as well-rounded individuals who have positive self-esteem as well as a sense of responsibility for their peers, the community, and the environment. We want Bishopshalt students to be confident young people and valuable citizens who have a strong sense of their place in society.
We promote traditional values including being kind to others, respecting them, and working hard. We are proud of the very positive relationships that exist in the school and that it is a very happy community. National progress measures show that we have been significantly above national averages for 4 consecutive years at A level and we are currently in the top 24% at GCSE. Our Vision Statement (below) emphasizes that we aim to offer an outstanding education to all, but also that we are striving to build on the strong foundations that we have, we always aim to improve.
We believe that Bishopshalt School is above all else a place for learning and our aim in the classroom is for all students to reach their full potential. This can only be achieved in a school where there are high expectations both in terms of behavior and standards of work.
At the heart of our curriculum is a strong emphasis on learning and teaching. We want our students to be involved, inspired, and curious about the world around them. Our broad and balanced curriculum offers both traditional academic subjects and a range of applied learning courses so that all our students can access learning and learning experiences. A range of different learning and teaching styles is promoted and we are committed to creativity and innovation to bring the curriculum to life.
Bishopshalt is committed to the idea that education goes beyond the reach of the classroom and that young people can learn a great deal by taking part in educational visits and activities away from school and home.
