The Beavers Community Primary School Staff and Governors aim to provide, together with our community, a center of excellence with quality learning and teaching provision for all our pupils. Beavers Community Primary School will, without excuse or compromise, provide the best start in life for all of the children in its care. Values-based schools seek to promote an educational philosophy based on valuing self, others, and the environment through the consideration of an ethical values vocabulary.
Values are principles that guide behavior. At Beavers, adults are encouraged to model values and to give time for reflective practices. We believe that this empowers individuals to be effective learners and good citizens. We use a scheme called Project Achieve which encourages children to ‘Stop and Think’ about what’s happened and then make a good choice to remedy it. It trains children to deal positively with difficult situations, which may otherwise lead to conflict.
At Beavers Community Primary School, we aim to provide the children with a curriculum that is broad, well-balanced, and above all stimulates the children to learn. We aim to build on the knowledge, understanding, and skills of all children, whatever their starting points, as they progress through the school.
The curriculum encompasses the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum while incorporating other experiences and opportunities which best meet the learning and developmental needs of the pupils in our school. Through a positive and caring environment, we provide the opportunity for every child to reach their full potential and develop the skills they need to be successful, independent, and motivated learners.
Our curriculum design is based firmly on the principles of good learning matched to the specific needs of the children in our school. National requirements and school requirements are mapped out as a whole school and then individual year groups plan the curriculum for their pupils accordingly.
The curriculum is underpinned by the school’s Values (Respect, Equality, Determination, Honesty, Courage, and Compassion) and these are taught on their own and through other areas of the curriculum, including assemblies. The spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our pupils and their understanding of the core values of our society are woven through the curriculum.
At Beavers Community Primary School we seek to create opportunities for children to experience and excel in a range of activities that enhance and extend the National Curriculum. Children have opportunities both inside and outside the classroom eg themed days, trips, workshops, sporting events, visiting speakers, and much more.
