We are a friendly, private preparatory school in Ealing, West London with small class sizes, combining high-quality teaching with traditional values of courtesy and respect.
Our dedicated team of staff nurtures, encourage, inspire and invest in each child. All can aspire to achieve their potential and flourish whether their talents are obvious, or initially more deeply hidden! The destination selective schools and scholarship offers of our Year 6 pupils are testaments to our success.
Naturally, you want the best for your child. So do we. And just as children come in all shapes and sizes and one size does not fit all, so our approach to every child is tailor-made to their individual needs so we can bring out the best in them. With our small class sizes, we can achieve the home-from-home family atmosphere that has proved so successful in preparing our pupils for their secondary education and the world around them. We believe that learning should be fun and that children should love their school. We make this happen without losing sight of traditional values such as good manners, mutual respect, and kindness. These values are as important as anything else that we teach at Avenue House. But you don't need to take our word for it. On this website, you can read testimonials from families who have already experienced what Avenue House School has to offer, and many comments from our recent ISI inspection.
Our professional, dedicated, and approachable staff are what make Avenue House School such a wonderful place to learn. Children are taught in small classes where they can develop an excellent work ethic and achieve high standards in academic and non-academic subjects.
Assemblies are held on four mornings a week. As a non-denominational school, they are a time for reflection and children to learn about values of faith, hope, and kindness. They are also a time to celebrate the efforts and achievements of individual pupils and team successes (or near misses!)
From Year 1 onwards, children are divided into four 'Houses' - St David, St George, St Patrick, and St Andrew. House points are awarded for achievement, effort, courtesy, kindness, and helpfulness. The ability to do homework is a vital skill. All children are provided with a homework timetable. Early homework is usually reading. Spellings form part of homework from Year 1.
Pupils are closely monitored and subject teachers may use extension materials with some children where appropriate. Critical thinking is taught and challenges are set for the more able. Pupils are directed towards activities that will enable them to develop their talents which may be academic, sporting, creative, or musical.
All pupils are expected to wear the correct school uniform which is kept as simple as possible. The school uniform supplier is Juniper Schools & Sports, 88 Pitshanger Lane, London W5 1QX .Form teachers are generally available to see parents before and after school. A meeting with the Headteacher is by appointment. Parental input is very important and we encourage parents to come into school to talk to the children on subjects of interest, to participate in activities, and to join us on school day trips and residential trips.
