Annette Street Primary is at the heart of the local community it serves. We work hard to create a safe, happy, welcoming, and positive ethos where our children can learn together. We aim to work in partnership with you in the important task of developing your child to his/her full potential and our school places a strong emphasis on tailoring the curriculum to meet every child's needs. We are keen to have your fullest support in encouraging your child to work hard and behave well. If you are concerned about your child please come and tell us.

We would like to welcome new children and their parents to the school and hope they will enjoy their time at Annette Street Primary. We look forward to seeing all of the children and parents who are already with us return for another exciting year. Throughout the year we will organize many events where we can meet and get to know you, and so the children can demonstrate what they are learning.

Last year we learned about the importance of being healthy and learned about how food and exercise are very important in maintaining this. This year our whole school topic will be about traveling and we are looking forward to the children sharing stories of their families experiences.

Once again it is shaping up into a busy year. Our Primary 7 pupils have been swimming since the start of the new year, with many now able to swim. We have placed literacy, play, and science high on our agenda this year so there will be many exciting opportunities for our pupils to develop skills in all areas. To encourage friendships, we have established Paths Pals in the playground. This means that a group of our senior children has been trained to include any child they think may not have someone to play with in playground games. So far this is very successful. We have Jeely Piece coming in once a week to develop outdoor learning with our P4 and P5 classes. We are working hard to tidy up our garden as well as getting involved in community gardening in the local area. Community clean-ups have started and our children take pride in keeping it tidy.

We want to thank our volunteers in VTO and The Daisy Chain Club who provide homework after school clubs on a Monday and Tuesday. The children enjoy these clubs and benefit greatly from the additional support in their learning. We also want to thank our staff who put on after-school clubs which cover badminton, running, dancing and cycling.

Big Noise Govanhill continues to work within our school and now works with all classes up to and including Primary 6. Big Noise comes in regularly throughout the year to play to the parents and children and add to the creative atmosphere of our school. Our Attainment Challenge is now firmly underway and Mrs. Gillespie has invited parents to her Cook Book Club which runs on a Monday afternoon. She will ensure that different parents get the opportunity to attend throughout the year.

Curriculum for Excellence aims to achieve a transformation in education in Scotland by providing a coherent, more flexible, and enriched curriculum from 3 to 18. A Curriculum for Excellence is not only about what children are learning, it is about new ways of teaching and learning, with more emphasis on skills for learning, work, and life.

The aims of Curriculum for Excellence are that children become:

    • confident individuals
