The French School of Seoul (LFS) is an establishment that agreed with the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) and approved for all levels from kindergarten to high school. Founded in 1974 in Itaewon-dong, the LFS has been settled since 1981 in the Seorae-maeul district, of which it is a recognized institution today. This integration in the heart of a multicultural district of Seoul has been consolidated following the decision taken in 2016 by the Parents’ Association (APE) to maintain the establishment on the current site and to carry out extension work.
So this is a new chapter of the history of the LFS that begins to be written today, of which we are all actors. Construction work began in April 2017 will continue throughout the school year. They will enable the school to welcome students, staff, and families in new spaces more numerous, more spacious, adapted, and suitable for the educational missions of our establishment in September 2018. We will also develop a culture of safety and security in the establishment. At the same time, we will focus on maintaining and reinforcing a good-quality pedagogical and educational provision, assured by trained and committed staff, concerned with accompanying students for a successful school career.
To speak of the excellence of an institution and the success of students is, of course, to speak of the excellence of their exam results, but also their mastery of several languages, of the construction of their training projects in higher education, of their engagement in civil actions, or, daily, of their progress and the efforts established by all. In the continuity of the actions carried out for several years, we must prepare, promote and accompany the future evolutions of the French School of Seoul, ready to school new French, Korean, and Francophone students. In that respect, the project of establishment in progress will define the policy and the action plan of the LFS for the coming years, reaffirming the status of French schools open to its host country and the world.
You can count on the sense of responsibility and the total commitment of all the staff of the establishment, on our willingness to work for the sake of all, with the students and their parents, in synergy with the Bureau of Parents’ Association, the services of the French Embassy and the AEFE, partner associations and institutions.
The French School of Seoul welcomes French children firstly to accompany expatriate families. This support also makes it possible to extend the public service outside French territory. Depending on the places available, the French high school also aims to educate the children of the host country as well as children from third countries who wish to benefit from French educational know-how. French students (72% in 2015): Native French-speaking Students from the French education system (public, private establishment under contract and of French high school network abroad) are automatically admitted to the extent that the administrative and financial conditions are fulfilled and within the limit of places available. Students from a private non-contracted institution may be tested for entry.
Korean students (12% in 2015): Korean students who fulfill the conditions defined by the local regulations (presidential decree of 28/02/2009) can be enrolled in the LFS. Students who have stayed for at least 3 years abroad or who hold a third nationality and one of whose parents is not Korean may be admitted under such conditions to the LFS. If the student comes from the French education system or the French high school network abroad, admission will be possible, subject to the availability of places without an entrance test. Students of other nationalities (16% in 2015, some twenty different nationalities): Depending on the availability of place, students from the French education system or the network of French schools abroad will be admitted without an entrance test. Other Francophone students may be admitted on an entrance test.
The second grade is a class of determination which makes it possible to prepare the choice of a series in the first grade. The class of second grade includes courses that are common to all students, representing 80% of the student’s overall schedule, and two courses of exploration, including one in economics, to which optional teaching can be added. In the first and final grades, in all series, the education programs make it possible gradually to acquire knowledge and skills enabling high school students to pass the baccalaureate exam and preparing the pursuit of higher education.
The service of School Life is composed of the Senior Education Advisor, Mr. DELABROSSE, and five full-time or part-time supervisors. School life takes care of students outside class time. Its main mission is to ensure that each student follows his schooling in the best conditions, with respect for people, property, and rules of life in the community.
The Office of School Life is a place to welcome and listen to students at any time of the day: school or personal problems, research information on the daily organization of the middle school and the high school. The Senior Education Advisor ensures the individual follow-up of students: an interview with students and families about their behavior in the middle school and the high school, listening role in close collaboration with the school nurse and the principal teachers. He regularly informs families of any problems regarding the schooling of their children. It also provides collective student monitoring, for example, by supervising the management of student flows during class time or in the organization of student delegate meetings.
Supervisors oversee students mainly during studying hours, during breaks, and at intercourses. They have an educational role for students: respect for the rules of procedure, advice in the organization, help with homework. They are attentive to the various problems that students may encounter. They also manage absences and delays. We advise you to consult regularly your children’s correspondence book and promote using the login credentials that are communicated to families at the beginning of the school year. You’ll find student schedules, grades, homework, absences, and delays as well as regularly updated information.
