Welcome to the International Christian School of Uijeongbu (ICSU). We have been serving the Uijeongbu community for the last 35 years and are excited to continue to strengthen our educational program to prepare students for their life and career beyond their time with us.
The International Christian School Uijeongbu (ICSU) is an international school on the northern edge of the Seoul metropolitan area that is part of the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS). We are a Christian school, following the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our school uses an American curriculum and all instruction is done in English. For our high school students, AP (Advanced Placement) classes are available, which can give college credit at universities across the United States.
Our mission is to provide an education that will enable the student to be a productive, responsible citizen with a Biblical worldview. Education, being the pursuit of truth, is provided in the context that Jesus Christ is the absolute truth. The philosophy of International Christian School Uijeongbu (ICSU) is based on a Christ-centered view that Jesus Christ is the source of all truth. ICSU deems itself responsible for the spiritual, mental, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of each student while attending ICSU. The word of God will permeate all activities and agendas as the school aims to integrate the Bible throughout the total curriculum. Christ touched lives collectively and individually as He modeled a caring and effective teaching style, thus effective teaching begins with offering unconditional love for each child and continues through positive teacher-student relationships.
It is the purpose of ICSU to provide a distinctly Christian academic environment for its students and to train young people to function in the world as discerning Christian citizens. We believe a discerning Christian strives for discipline and excellence in all he or she does and that integrity, industry, and faithfulness mark a Christian citizen who fully integrates wisdom, knowledge, and faith.ICSU encourages the promotion of high academic standards while helping students acquire creative and critical thinking skills. The objective of the ICSU instructional program is to enable the student to pursue the post-secondary education of his or her choosing whether it be in a university or the area of vocational or technical training.
ICSU is blessed to have students from all corners of the world attend the school. Families are from the United States of America, China, Russia, Japan, India, Philippines, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and many more nations. The rich diversity provides our community a wealth of understanding about the world around them. As a foreign school in South Korea, we are permitted to accept South Korean citizens. Although we are limited, by the Ministry of Education, to accept Korean citizens who have met the minimum number of days living outside of the country for 1095 days -- 3 years. Please contact the front office if you have questions about your child’s status.
Students at ICSU have opportunities beyond their academic core classes to further their curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning through chapels, mission trips, community service, electives, clubs, athletic teams, intramural sports, and many other opportunities.
It is the mission of ICSU to utilize technology to enhance the learning process. We are committed to preparing our community of learners to exhibit a Biblical worldview as responsible citizens, maximize productivity, advance communication, promote critical thinking, and foster collaboration by integrating technology. We know that education, being the pursuit of truth, is provided in the context that Jesus Christ is the absolute Truth.
Rev. Joe Hale founded Liberty Christian School in 1983. The school was initially founded to meet the needs of several missionary families in the Uijeongbu area. Because of the number of “non-command-sponsored” military children in the area, the school was expanded to include students in Kindergarten through grade twelve. In 1988 a branch school was started in Dongduchon to meet the needs of the students in the Seoul area. In 1990 an elementary school was started in the Namsan area of Seoul, including a branch in Songtan.
Yongsan International School of Seoul (YISS) and the sister school in Songtan is now International Christian School Pyeongtaek (ICSP). All three schools cooperate and support each other.ICSU was accepted as a candidate for accreditation in 1988. After an extensive self-study, the school was visited by the accrediting team from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in April 1991. The school received full six-year accreditation in June 1991. A dual ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) self-study was completed during the 1996-1997, 2002-2003, 2008-2009, and 2014-2015 school year. ICS-Uijeongbu is fully accredited until 2021 at which time the school will undergo another complete self-study for continuing accreditation.
At ICSU we believe in excellence both on and off the athletic field. God has given us physical and mental abilities which we build upon in our athletic program at ICSU. Our coaches are more than just sportspeople, they are mentors who train our athletes how to compete, persevere, work hard, be a team player and overall bring glory to God. We train our athletes to work hard in everything they do with the understanding that honor and respect are more important than wins and losses. The dual significance of character education and personal growth makes our athletic program an essential component of education at ICSU.
