SIS is equipped with state-of-the-art learning facilities - wireless internet (WiFi) connection across our premise, access to individual personal computers, and classroom teaching using interactive whiteboards. Our e-learning course management system permits teachers to share daily assignments and learning resources with students and parents.
The program is student-centered, where students are taught knowledge, skills, and understanding not just to write exams, but to take this knowledge to apply it, to think critically, and communicate it. It is a unique style of teaching/learning and our students not only enjoy it but are well-positioned for success in post-secondary programs at English-speaking universities around the world.
From Grade 7 to Grade 12, we concentrate on English literacy and Mathematics numeracy. We offer a semester model with an emphasis on project-based learning, assignments, experiential field trips, independent research, and group work.
The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an academically challenging and balanced pre-university program that prepares students, aged 16 - 19, for success at university and life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being of students.
Students are provided a great variety of enriching extra-curricular activities that allow them to further build on their understanding of teamwork, collaboration, and service to others. In sports, we are members of the International Schools Athletic Council (ISAC) and compete in basketball, football, and more. We also offer a rich and balanced selection of clubs for students throughout the school year to explore their interests and build upon their confidence and skills.
SIS’s teachers instructing our Ontario courses receive annual certification by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), or any other certified teaching credentials, which means in addition to subject expertise, they have additional qualifications in teaching. Our five-story school building which opened in September 2012, offers a digital high-tech learning environment. In addition to the laptop program in Grades 8 – 12, all classrooms are electronically equipped with overhead projectors and Smartboards. The science labs include the latest equipment in science learning. Our SIS Hall functions as an excellent gymnasium and a multi-purpose hall, and our cafeteria is spacious and comfortable. In early 2016, we are anticipating the opening of the East building, which will house our new expanded Library, as well as our black box theatre for Drama classes and our planned Music program. Finally, our SIS House hostel facilities have recently been renovated to provide comfortable, secure, and safe student housing.
