Kinabalu International School. Established in 1973, KIS is a family-friendly school, where everybody is valued as an individual, where student learning is at the very center of everything we do, and where we aspire to be genuinely international in our approach to education.
KIS currently provides an education for students aged 18 months to 18 years old. It prides itself on offering an education that develops all aspects of a student’s intellectual, physical, creative, and social character. We recognize that each child is unique and that to provide them with the very best education, we need to be student-centered in our approach. We challenge each student to strive for personal and corporate excellence in all that they do so that they are well prepared for the challenges of tomorrow’s world. Our talented students currently come from 33 different countries around the world and our professional teaching staff is nearly 10. Our educational programs, in the form of the English National Curriculum and the Cambridge International IGCSE and A-Level programs, represent some of the very best available worldwide and provide an authentically international perspective.
We are a caring and supportive community where students can feel safe and secure, and equally valued. All members of our community are encouraged to develop an understanding of other cultures, along with their own. Our students acquire an independent and critical approach to learning and are provided with a wide range of opportunities to develop their interests.
KIS is very proud to be a not-for-profit school, which is owned and operated by parents for the benefit of their children. The school is managed by an active and forward-thinking Board of Management, which is elected annually by parents. In addition, the Parents and Teachers Association organizes and supports several excellent KIS community events during the year and also raises funds to help the school.
