The New School Rome is a private, international school for pupils aged 3‑18 offering the English National Curriculum. Founded in 1972, The New School Rome provides academic excellence with close attention to students’ needs. The school’s track record at IGCSE is excellent and it is also one of the top-performing schools in Europe at A-Level. Students go on to university in the UK, United States, or Italy. The school is situated on beautiful grounds close to Rome's historic center. The school is proud to be a member of the Council of British International Schools. In November 2017 it passed a COBIS compliance inspection.
The New School was founded by a group of parents and teachers who wanted to create a school where academic excellence would be combined with attention to the individual and the development of personal and social responsibility. Throughout the years the school has served the needs of the international community in Rome by offering the best in English education from age 3 to age 18. The New School follows the English National Curriculum and is a recognized examination center for 2 major English examination boards, Edexcel (London) and CIE (Cambridge International Examinations). It is also a long-standing member of COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education. It is a non-profit making association.
We follow the English National Curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage. As our children are from international backgrounds, and we are based in Italy, we adapt the curriculum to meet our specific needs. The Curriculum is divided into 7 areas of development. At The New School, we aim to cater to the needs of all children in our care. To fulfill this aim, we recognize that some pupils may, at times, require additional support.
We are fortunate to be able to call on the expertise of a variety of consultants and specialists should the need arise, (Educational Psychologist, Speech/language therapist, Occupational Therapist, etc.) To provide continuity throughout the school, the process is overseen by the school’s Learning Support Coordinator. At present individual teaching and intervention from outside consultants are paid for by parents.
In addition to classroom differentiated support, the class teacher may feel that a period of more intensive support is required. At this point, the class teacher and Learning Support teacher will draw up several specific Learning Goals. These are set out on a document and will be shared with the child and their parents. Goals are reviewed termly, in consultation with the child and parents.
