M.A.C. is the American division of Orouba Language Schools which opened in 2001. It is the El Rashidy family's latest addition in their quest for educational excellence. Misr American College (M.A.C.) uses an American curriculum from Nursery through Grade 12.

Misr American College’s mission is “to provide an educational setting which enables students to acquire the academic knowledge and develop the learning skills necessary to succeed in higher education and to work and prepare for adulthood, both personally and professionally. This is achieved in the context of acquiring respect for and knowledge of their cultural heritage and the ability to function in a competitive international environment.”

M.A.C. uses an American curriculum based on academic standards covering Early Childhood Education to Grade 12 from the state of Massachusetts & North Carolina. The language of instruction is “Standard Edited American English” (S.E.A.E.) however, we also follow the Egyptian Ministry of Education rules for instruction in Arabic language, Arabic Social Studies, and Religion (Islamic and Christian). Our school is located in the New Maadi section of Cairo, Egypt and it is fully accredited by AdvancED, the largest accrediting organization in the world. M.A.C. students will develop and demonstrate:

    • The ability to work independently and deal effectively with the risks and challenges of pursuing both short and long-term goals.
    • Knowledge of religion and the Arabic language.
    • An understanding of the interdependence of the global community and an awareness of the issues that challenge its future.
    • The academic skills and knowledge required to gain entrance to and succeed in competitive local and international universities.
    • The ability to integrate knowledge from different disciplines, solve problems, and think analytically.
    • An international sensibility that includes compassion for the needs of others and tolerance and understanding of other cultures.
    • The ability to persevere in acquiring new and deeper levels of understanding and the acceptance of personal responsibility for their own progress.

    We believe that:

    • All children are capable of learning.
    • Every student‘s potential and capabilities must be fostered.
    • Education provides the key to success and fulfillment as an adult in both one's professional career and one‘s personal life.
    • Students need the intellectual tools and social skills to function and adapt to an ever-changing international society.
    • The ability to read, write and articulate one‘s thoughts are fundamental tools that empower the individual over the course of a lifetime.
    • Students must be trained to access and utilize information through traditional and electronic research mediums.
    • We must prepare our students to be active citizens of the global community and to be ready to master ever-changing communications technology.
    • Students must develop the critical thinking and analytical skills needed to evaluate information, beliefs, and value systems.
    • Students must be educated to develop a personal code of conduct based on moral principles and compassion for others.
    • Students must learn to live in peace with all peoples of the world and offer service to their local communities as responsible citizens.
    • The study of fine arts and physical education are essential for the development of the whole child.

If you want your child to have an education based on the American curriculum, we can give them the very best start. American international schools are a popular choice for parents right across the world. While there is no consistently used national American curriculum, the common themes of inquiry-based learning and student-centered planning have proven to be beneficial to students wishing to enter to further their education in North America.

The American curriculum is based on high standards of achievement in all subject areas. This broad and balanced approach is supported by a wide range of co-curricular activities which equip all students with the skills they need for the 21st century. American international schools start with entry to Kindergarten at the age of 4 or 5 years. M.A.C. also offers a Nursery program. Students can study through to Grade 12, where they are awarded the American High School Diploma at age 17. The American Diploma is accepted for entrance by all US universities and colleges and is increasingly recognized by other universities around the world.
