The Leo Baeck Day School nurtures each child academically, spiritually, physically, and artistically, while providing a modern and meaningful Jewish educational experience. A Leo Baeck education offers your child the best of all worlds: a Jewish education that is at once progressive and embraces tradition, paired with a powerful academic program that engages with the world. Discover a school where children are flexing their creative and critical muscles, deepening their Jewish identity, and becoming their very best selves in a warm and supportive community.
Being an International Baccalaureate school means academic excellence, innovative educational practice, and globally-minded students with critical thinking skills. Our dynamic approach to learning fosters curiosity, creativity, interdisciplinary connections, and self-reflection. We recently became a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), which will see our whole school unified under the IB umbrella.
We equip our students with the ability to be nimble and adaptive. We value hands-on, experiential learning, welcoming big ideas that are grounded in real-world issues. Students are primed to think outside of the box, grow through collaboration, and reflect on and assess their development.
Our candidacy as a PYP school and our membership in CAIS (Canadian Accredited Independent Schools) reflect our efforts for continual improvement and our strong standing in the independent school movement. The Leo Baeck Day School was founded in 1974 as a Reform Jewish day school that would provide a modern alternative to the more traditional day school options in the Toronto Jewish community. Our very first home was in the basement of Temple Emanu-El. While we have inhabited various facilities throughout the decades as our school has grown, we’ve remained true to our founding belief in child-centered pedagogy and progressive Jewish values.
