Housed in a beautifully restored historic building, with a modern and aesthetically captivating new addition, Clanmore Montessori School is an Oakville private school situated in southeast Oakville at the intersection of Lakeshore Road East and Winston Churchill Boulevard. The school conveniently borders both Joshua’s Creek Conservation Area and the City of Mississauga.
Our vision at Clanmore Montessori School is to offer a unique educational program for children of ages eighteen months to fifteen years. We offer an environment that meets the total needs of each child and fosters family life. Our program is based on the philosophy of Maria Montessori, who developed an approach to children consistent with their natural development and their fundamental desire to learn. Fully trained teachers guide and mentor the children using the principles of freedom within limits and self-directed activity. This allows each child to achieve his or her potential, academic and otherwise, without pressure, and to develop a keen sense of self. With low student-to-teacher ratios and a highly qualified, caring staff, our atmosphere is warm and inclusive.
Clanmore Montessori School sprang from a dream, a vision, a desire for a wonderful learning environment for children. Grace Kidney, Elaine Delsnyder, and Cathy Sustronk, who began their work together as teaching colleagues in the 1980s, were the dreamers. They had a vision of a strong, supportive school where happy children, whose developmental imperatives were being met, would be happy learners. Dr. Maria Montessori’s approach to children and their education fulfilled this vision theirs, therefore, had to be a Montessori School.
The environment for the Clanmore Montessori preschool child allows for the development of skills through exploration and manipulation of specifically designed materials. In a caring and nurturing private school environment the teacher assists the developing children to explore activities that are carefully designed to appeal to the children and to respond to their intellectual and physical needs.
In the elementary environment at Clanmore Montessori School, we remember the origin of the word education, which is the Latin word “Educare” meaning to lead out or draw forth. Our primary function is to educate the whole child for life. To do this we implement two essential elements: the first is a community of children of mixed ages within which the child can grow emotionally and socially the second is the academic instruction suited to the individual student’s stage and rate of learning.
The prepared Middle School environment offers students the opportunity to discover their unique gifts and talents and to learn the skills and tools they will need to become compassionate, 21st-century thinkers, able to lead the change required to address the challenges facing our world today. This is not just education for education’s sake, this is education for life. Clanmore Montessori School will help create a foundation that will not only have a profound effect on your child while they are with us, but will stay with them throughout the various stages of their life.
Clanmore Montessori School’s Co-curricular Programs are seamlessly integrated into the end of the school day, allowing for more family time in the evenings. Care has been taken to ensure that like our Summer Camp, these programs blend with the Clanmore approach. They are developmentally appropriate, co-ed, and with mixed-age groupings.
