The Chisholm experience offers a unique educational advantage over the conventional public and private school environments. On one campus, three integrated services work closely to maximize student learning and success: Chisholm Academy's full-time program, Chisholm Academy's remedial/tutoring services, and the affiliated Chisholm Assessment Centre.
Since 1971, Chisholm has been registered with the Ministry of Education and Training. Since that time, we have offered special education services to elementary and secondary students who require remediation, tutoring, or accommodations or modifications to their programs. Chisholm is known for its ability to tailor a program to meet each student's individual needs, either full-time or part-time. Individualized programs can also be developed for adults who require specialized academic upgrading. Because of our affiliation with the Chisholm Assessment Centre, we are in a unique position to provide the expertise to analyze a student's specific learning profile and develop strategies to address his or her needs. We are the home school for many students who require a safe, structured environment to reach their potential. We also offer after-school programs for elementary and secondary students who need tutoring in specific academic areas.
Chisholm Academy is a full-time private high school for students experiencing academic difficulties, including but not limited to, learning disabilities, anxiety, Asperger's, and A.D.H.D. The continued success of our school depends on the generosity of individuals in the community. This generosity allows us to continue to offer scholarships based on financial need. Capital campaigns for developments such as a gymnasium and a drama center will not be possible without the help of those who, like us, see real value in the work we do. Please consider us for a portion of your annual giving.

The Academy is more than a "traditional" senior elementary and secondary school, offering a full range of courses leading to post-secondary education, rigorous academics, small classes, individualized programming, and extensive educational support. Our students thrive in the Academy environment, whether they struggle with learning disabilities or other impediments to learning that previously blocked their success in larger school environments.
Our teachers rely on the expertise of the affiliated Psychology Department, the Chisholm Assessment Centre, in developing an Individual Education Plan for each student and implementing appropriate accommodations. The staff of the Chisholm Assessment Centre has expertise in developing programs for students with learning disabilities as well as the assessment and consultation of learning, vocational, and personal issues. The Chisholm Academy's remedial/tutoring services provide further support through after-school and summer school programs.
Chisholm is registered and inspected as a private school by the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training and is authorized to grant credits at all levels in all subjects. Parent contact is encouraged and is a critical component of success at Chisholm Academy. Through constant communication, we work together to help our students achieve academic and personal success. With average classroom sizes of less than 12 students, Chisholm Academy also has several smaller classes where students can be taught in groups of four or less depending on their needs. In our tutoring program, students are carefully grouped with never more than three students in a class.
The senior elementary program for students in grades 7 and 8 has a particular education focus. It incorporates a variety of teaching strategies and accommodations and remediation in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics, as required by each student. Like their high school counterparts, senior elementary students benefit from Individual Education Plans, small class sizes, Smart Board technology in all classrooms, after-school support, multi-disciplinary staff, and a modern and well-equipped 25,000 square foot building.
The high school's two most significant advantages over other schools are the multi-disciplinary staff and the fact that an Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.) is written for each student. This I.E.P. includes an overview of strengths and weaknesses and teaching strategies that best suit the student's learning profile. The student's I.E.P. is reviewed annually. Like their senior elementary counterparts, high school students also benefit from small class sizes, Smart Board technology in all classrooms, after-school support, and a modern and well-equipped 25,000 square foot building.
Tutoring helps struggling students and children with learning difficulties to develop academic skills and self-confidence. Skill-building programs are also available, including Organizational and Study Skills, E.S.L. Instruction, Essay Writing, Computer Skills Training, Grade 10 Literacy Test Preparation and S.S.A.T., S.A.T., and G.E.D. Preparation. Providing students with the tools to achieve academic success is what Chisholm Academy's tutoring services are all about.
Chisholm Academy is fortunate to be associated with the Chisholm Assessment Centre, which has over 40 years of experience assisting students. Psychoeducational assessments can help detect academic challenges, underachievement, dyslexia, and other learning disabilities, school-related anxiety, attentional weaknesses or AD/HD, social difficulties, and other obstacles to learning. Educational assessments also help to identify gifted abilities. Chisholm Assessment Centre provides psychoeducational assessments and counseling for students of all ages, including elementary, secondary, and post-secondary students.
