Located in Rose Bay and overlooking the iconic Sydney Harbour, Kambala is a vibrant, independent day and boarding school for girls aged up to 18. We offer a choice of learning pathways. Girls can achieve the IB Diploma or the NSW HSC. Kambala inspires academic excellence, consistently ranking among the top non-selective girls’ schools in Sydney.
To provide students with the widest choice of possibilities, Kambala girls can elect to achieve either the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or the NSW High School Certificate (HSC) in Years 11 and 12. Kambala’s history of HSC and IB graduates further demonstrates our commitment to and pursuit of academic excellence, nationally and globally.
Kambala’s early learning center cares for approximately 100 girls and boys aged between 6 months and four years. Our center operates from 7.30 am–6.00 pm, 48 weeks per year. We are closed for four weeks from mid-December until mid-January, as well as all public holidays. Parents maintain an agreed pattern of attendance for a minimum of two days per week. Casual days may be available on request.
For girls in Preparation to Year 6, the Junior School provides a vibrant and active environment where coming to school is an adventure. During these critical foundational years of schooling, we focus on developing learning skills to enhance academic achievement.
We offer a rich and varied curriculum that makes learning fun and ensures that every child can participate in activities that stimulate and interest them. Our students are encouraged to pursue excellence in all they do – whether through academic, sporting, or creative endeavors.
There are two classes at each year level from Preparation to Year 4. In Years 5 and 6, there are three classes in each grade. Classrooms are complemented by shaded outdoor play areas, a sensory garden, and an outdoor amphitheater to promote play-based learning experiences.
By the end of a girl’s time in the Junior School phase of her education at Kambala, she will not only have obtained an excellent academic foundation, but she will also have been exposed to a variety of social and cultural experiences that serve to develop her independence and confidence.
The development of literacy and numeracy skills is vitally essential for primary-aged children. Our students at Kambala consistently perform well above state and national averages in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN).
The Senior School caters to approximately 590 students in Years 7 to 12. Our focus is on developing a love of learning which will last a lifetime. The strength and quality of a Kambala education are not limited to the public successes of our students. All girls at Kambala are important and are encouraged to participate and do their best. While the pursuit of excellence is essential, the school encourages students to believe in the principle that ‘you have succeeded if you have achieved your personal best.’
At Kambala, we provide an environment that promotes the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual wellbeing of all students. Kambala advocates for resolution and restorative practices rather than punishment. A positive approach, which seeks to bring about change in behavior and thinking, will be used wherever possible. Kambala endorses the method of shared concern, a non-punitive method for responding to bullying situations. It should be noted, however, that responses to bullying will be tailored to suit the situation.
