In an area where young people often have to leave their community to further their education or enroll in homeschooling, it has long been our desire is to expand our capacity to offer a quality Secondary School education. The development of the GCC Middle School and the links to Nambour Christian College Senior School for boarding have been significant steps in realizing this vision.
Gulf Christian College (GCC) is an independent, co-educational Christian School located in Normanton in the Gulf district of Queensland. The College caters to students attending Prep to Year 9 from Normanton, Doomadgee, Karumba, and surrounding cattle stations. GCC has been operating in the community for over 30 years and was initially started by the Normanton Assembly of God Church with classes held in the church building.
Prep Year at GCC introduces your child to the structures and expectations of schooling in a supportive, informal environment. This allows your child to develop spiritually, socially, physically, cognitively, and creatively. GCC Primary School provides a balanced curriculum based on the current Australian curriculum subjects. This curriculum is being developed around multi-media to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness.
For years 7, 8, and 9, GCC Middle School recognizes this age group as a distinct developmental phase for students and hence requires a unique response. Being the bridge between Primary and Senior schooling, Middle School aims to nurture, stimulate, and challenge students. As much as possible, learning is made relevant to these students' lives, and the activity-based emphasis more adequately meets the need of this adolescent age group.
The close relationship between Gulf Christian College and Nambour Christian College provides our graduating Middle School students with an exceptional pathway into Senior School. With the students having spent a fortnight, three times a year, visiting NCC during their Middle School years, they have formed friendships with their year level, are familiar with NCC's layout and culture, and find the transition to Senior School much less daunting than the other alternatives. Boarding is provided at NCC for GCC students to complete Senior School. The boarding house reinforces the culture and values of both GCC and NCC.
