ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE:

This is a fantastic opportunity for a suitably experienced person to join the Mater Hospital as a Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) of a 28 bed general surgical ward (McQuion Ward).


This is a permanent full-time role. The position is responsible for the day-to-day running of the ward including leading and managing the team to ensure high standard of patient care and meeting quality and financial KPIs.

The ward is a highly productive surgical unit with a varied surgical case mix including:

  • ENT Adults and Paediatrics

  • Gynaecology

  • Urology

  • Bariatrics surgery

  • Plastic surgery

About you:

The position will work closely with our Visiting Medical Officer (VMO), allied health, and multidisciplinary team to provide excellent patient outcomes post-surgery.

Selection Criteria

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA). Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in surgical nursing

  • Relevant management experience and tertiary qualification in management or a willingness to work towards management qualification

  • Ability to create a transformational leadership environment

  • A demonstrated knowledge in financial, budget and human resources management

  • Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal and conflict management skills

  • An ability to understand and navigate complex stakeholder environments, engage and influence stakeholders effectively and build consensus, where required

  • Experience in management of change, risk management and quality improvement processes

  • A commitment to the philosophy, mission, values, ethics and Code of Conduct of St Vincent’s Health Australia
