Job Description
Are you passionate about quality and robotics? Do you thrive on solving complex problems that span hardware, software, and system integration? Amazon Robotics is looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer II to own quality for robotic systems deployed across Amazon's fulfillment network.
In this role, you won't just execute test plans — you'll define them. You'll take ambiguous product requirements and turn them into comprehensive test strategies covering functional, integration, and performance testing. You'll work hands-on with robotic systems on our test floors, validating that releases meet the quality bar before they reach production sites. When you find problems, you won't just file a bug — you'll trace the root cause across system boundaries and give developers the evidence they need to fix it fast.
You'll also build tools and automation that make the whole team more effective — scripting repeatable test scenarios, developing methods to evaluate release quality, and creating documentation that lets teammates run your tests independently. Your work will multiply the impact of everyone around you. You'll collaborate daily with software engineers, hardware engineers, and systems engineers, representing quality in design reviews, release decisions, and cross-team discussions.
This is a hands-on role based at our BOS27 facility in Westborough, MA. If you want to work at the intersection of robotics, quality engineering, and real-world impact, we'd love to hear from you.
Key job responsibilities
Own end-to-end test strategy for robotic features and systems — defining what to test, how to test it, and what infrastructure is needed, even when requirements are ambiguous or evolving.
Create and execute test plans for complex test scenarios including system integration, robotic workcell validation, and safety-critical functionality across hardware, software, and firmware boundaries.
Design and build automated test solutions that are maintainable, reusable, and reliable — enabling other engineers to run and extend them independently.
Develop test strategies for non-functional areas such as performance, reliability, and regression detection to ensure product quality is measured objectively.
Isolate, document, and validate defects with detailed evidence and root-cause analysis, enabling development teams to triage and resolve issues efficiently.
Represent quality assurance in cross-functional discussions including design reviews, release readiness decisions, and retrospectives — advocating for quality at every stage of the development lifecycle.
Collaborate with software developers, hardware engineers, and systems engineers to understand technical architecture and assess how changes impact test scope and product behavior.
Mentor junior engineers, interns, and contractors — training them on products, test methodologies, and tools, and creating documentation that reduces tribal knowledge.
Execute testing on physical test floors to qualify releases prior to production deployment, working directly with robotic systems and workcells.
Proactively identify quality risks, propose solutions, and take on projects that improve testing processes or more accurately measure product quality.
A day in the life
Your day starts with a team standup where you and your fellow QA engineers level set on priorities, blockers, and what's happening across active test campaigns. From there, your day might look different depending on where you are in a release cycle.
Some days are heavily hands-on — you're on the test floor at BOS27 running test scenarios against robotic workcells, capturing logs, and investigating unexpected behavior. You'll troubleshoot across hardware, software, and firmware boundaries, pulling data from multiple sources to build a clear picture of what went wrong and why.
Other days are more collaborative — you're in design reviews with software and hardware engineers, asking the questions that shape how a feature gets tested. You might be scoping a test strategy for a new capability, defining what "done" looks like when the requirements are still evolving, or presenting release analysis to stakeholders who need a clear verdict on whether a build is ready for production.
In between, you're building — writing test cases, developing automation that your teammates can pick up and run, creating documentation that eliminates the need for someone to tap you on the shoulder every time. You'll also spend time mentoring junior engineers and contractors, helping them ramp on products and test approaches.
You'll regularly collaborate with software development engineers, systems engineers, hardware engineers, and program managers. Your internal customers are the development teams who depend on your test results to make release decisions, and the operations teams who rely on the quality of what ships to fulfillment sites.
In this role you will work at the intersection of machine learning and physical robotics hardware. You will collaborate with hardware engineers to evaluate how your models perform on real sensors and edge compute, run experiments that directly influence what gets built next, and validate perception systems alongside robotics program teams. You will push the boundaries of computer vision for robotic applications while seeing your work deploy on real robots in real fulfillment centers. This is applied science with immediate, measurable impact at a scale no other robotics company can offer.

About the team
The Amazon Robotics Quality Assurance Engineering team is a group of approximately 20 engineers supporting a broad portfolio of robotic products and solutions — from manipulation systems and autonomous mobile robots to sortation, storage and retrieval, and outbound dock automation. Our work spans first mile, middle mile, last mile, and outbound dock operations across Amazon's fulfillment network.
We operate across three major test sites in Massachusetts — BOS12 (North Reading), BOS27 (Westborough), and BOS33 (Woburn) — where we maintain dedicated test floors with real robotic workcells and integration environments. We are a mix of hands-on testers, automation builders, and quality strategists who work closely with software, hardware, and systems engineering teams to make sure what ships to production actually works. We are growing and looking for curious, technically strong people who want to make a real impact on how robotics technology serves customers worldwide.
Basic Qualifications:
- 4+ years of quality assurance engineering experience
- Experience in automation testing
- Experience in manual testing
- Experience as QA lead on medium to large sized projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with at least one automated test framework like Selenium or Appium
- Experience in gathering test requirements to create detailed test plans and defining quality metrics to measure product quality
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
- Experience developing high quality test plans, test designs, test strategies, and test execution
- Experience of using test case management tools (e.g. Test Rail, TestLink) and issue management tools (Jira)
- Experience working closely with development and business teams to communicate problem impacts and to understand business requirements
