Job Description
Amazon strives to be Earth's most customer-centric company where customers can find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online.
By giving customers more of what they want — low prices, vast selection, and convenience — Amazon continues to grow and evolve as a world-class e-commerce platform, driven by the spirit of innovation that is part of the company's DNA. The world's brightest minds come to Amazon to research and develop technology that improves the lives of shoppers and sellers around the world.
Amazon Operations is the underlying fulfillment and customer service engine that ensures Amazon creates the same consistent, world-class customer experience every time. South Africa, while relatively small in economic terms today, represents a large and growing consumer market positioned for growth — spurred by the increasing productive potential of its young population, rapid adoption of technology, and evolving consumer behaviour. We are looking for high-potential, flexible, innovative
This is a hands-on role at the heart of the customer experience, making sure packages move efficiently from fulfilment centres to customers' doorsteps. You drive programs across last mile operations to deliver operational excellence and ensure continuous improvement. It is an entrepreneurial position within a fast-paced, ambiguous, and collaborative environment — one that calls for invention, grit, and local ingenuity.
Key job responsibilities
As a Transportation Operations Program Manager you will work across multiple internal and external stakeholders to achieve timely launches of new programs and capabilities, and to deliver consistent, high-quality operations outcomes for customers.
With strong Customer Obsession and a high sense of Ownership, you will manage safety, quality, productivity, and the customer delivery promise across Amazon’s delivery operations and our delivery partners. You will collaborate with partner teams - including Safety and Loss Prevention, Engineering, Capacity Planning, Human Resources, and Delivery Experience (DEX) - to develop plans that meet operational business objectives. You will partner closely with Fulfillment Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance, as well as our delivery-station teams to ensure smooth daily operations.
Roles and responsibilities:
• Own the deployment of continuous-improvement initiatives for network standards, working with delivery stations, delivery partners, fulfilment centres, and customer service teams to provide a best-in-class delivery experience, speed, and cost structure.
• Support demand and capacity planning — partner with Delivery Experience (DEX), Supply Chain, Fulfillment, Finance, and Planning to determine short, medium and long-term future demand for transportation and delivery resources,
• Manage the operational relationship across delivery partners — resolving operational issues, driving standard-work compliance and performance, and supporting commercial and contractual requirements where needed
• Build and run reporting mechanisms —develop reports and mechanisms that manage operational performance
A day in the life
No single day will be the same, but days will typically include:
• Reviewing daily performance reports and deep-diving station-level and delivery-area performance; working with sites and delivery partners to bridge performance gaps and implement corrective actions.
• Addressing blockers from the previous day to drive immediate corrective actions and prioritising any required interventions.
• Managing emerging issues that may put delivery operations at risk, putting mitigations in place to protect the customer promise and delivery experience.
• Supporting workforce and capacity planning
• Partnering with cross-functional teams on tactical and strategic initiatives such as network expansion, program launches, and efficiency initiatives.
• Preparing and contributing to weekly, monthly, and quarterly business reviews.
• Responding to customer and stakeholder escalations.
