As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be directly involved in the testing, commissioning, startup, and energization of high-voltage electrical equipment and systems. You will work closely with project teams, customers, and technical specialists to ensure equipment and systems are installed, tested, and commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

This role is ideal for someone with a practical, site-based engineering background who enjoys working hands-on with equipment, solving technical challenges, and travelling internationally to support world-class energy projects.

Your Responsibilities

  • Execute testing, commissioning, startup, and energization activities on HVDC, High Voltage, and substation projects worldwide.
  • Perform commissioning activities on primary electrical equipment and systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation prior to handover.
  • Carry out functional testing, inspections, equipment verification, and troubleshooting activities on site.
  • Support energization activities for AC and DC systems in accordance with approved commissioning procedures.
  • Work closely with engineering, construction, quality, HSE, and project management teams throughout project execution.
  • Review and execute commissioning plans, test procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve technical issues encountered during commissioning and startup phases.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and quality throughout all activities.
  • Represent Hitachi Energy professionally while working at customer sites and international project locations.
  • Travel extensively and undertake longer-term assignments at project sites globally.

Your Background

Required

  • Bachelor's degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of commissioning, testing, maintenance, installation, or field service experience within the power, utilities, energy, or industrial sectors.
  • Hands-on experience working with electrical equipment in a site-based environment.
  • Experience with testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and energization activities.
  • Understanding of AC and DC electrical systems.
  • Experience working on high-voltage electrical equipment, substations, power generation, transmission, or distribution projects.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multicultural project teams.
  • Fluent English, written and spoken.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally for extended periods.

Preferred

  • HVDC commissioning or operational experience.
  • Experience commissioning converter stations, substations, or grid integration projects.
  • Experience with primary plant equipment, switchgear, transformers, reactors, valves, or related high-voltage equipment.
  • Previous involvement in energization activities on large-scale electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of commissioning processes, testing methodologies, and quality systems.
  • Experience working on international projects.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on some of the world's most advanced HVDC and power transmission projects.
  • International career opportunities across Hitachi Energy's global business.
  • Comprehensive onboarding and mentoring support.
  • Continuous technical and professional development.
  • Flexible working arrangements where applicable.
  • Health and wellness benefits.
