Job Description:

Better and fairer care. Always.

For 175 years, St Vincent’s has been a pioneer in compassionate, high-quality care. Inspired by the enduring legacy of the Sisters of Charity and their Founder Mary Aikenhead, we are shaping a better and fairer health and aged care system, supporting people with life-changing care, wherever and whoever they are.

To support this vision, we are seeking an experienced National Director Enterprise Risk to lead our enterprise risk function, strengthen organisational resilience and support informed decision-making across our national health and aged care services.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the National Chief Medical Officer, you will provide strategic leadership, advice and oversight of enterprise risk across St Vincent’s Health Australia.

Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Divisional leaders and corporate portfolios, you will lead the development and ongoing maturity of our enterprise risk framework, risk appetite, systems and practices. Your insights will help our Executive, Board and Board Committees understand organisational risk exposure and balance opportunities with effective risk management.

This strategic and operational leadership role brings together enterprise and clinical risk perspectives, strengthens governance and assurance, and helps build future-fit risk systems that support the delivery of our strategy. You will foster a proactive risk culture across One St Vincent’s, where people feel empowered to raise concerns, constructively challenge decisions and take shared accountability for managing risk.

This permanent full-time opportunity can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of our Enterprise Risk Management Framework, Risk Appetite Statements, policies and future-fit risk systems, ensuring they evolve with the organisation and support the delivery of our strategy.
  • Maintain an integrated enterprise risk profile and register, ensuring material and emerging risks are identified, assessed, monitored and appropriately escalated.
  • Provide clear, insightful risk analysis and reporting to the Executive Leadership Team, Board and relevant Board Committees.
  • Act as a trusted adviser on strategic initiatives, investment decisions and organisational transformation, embedding risk management into strategy and business planning.
  • Oversee enterprise business continuity, crisis management and resilience frameworks, including Group-level recovery planning, testing and exercises.
  • Lead oversight of the Fraud and Corruption Control Framework, associated risk profiles and control plans.
  • Partner with Clinical Governance, Internal Audit and corporate and operational leaders to strengthen integrated risk, assurance and governance.
  • Lead and develop the enterprise risk team, building organisational capability and a culture of openness, learning and shared accountability through coaching, education and practical guidance.

About You:

You are a strategically minded, values-driven risk leader who thrives in complex, highly regulated environments. You combine sound judgement with a practical approach and can translate interconnected risks into clear advice that supports confident decisions.

You will bring:

  • Significant senior leadership experience in enterprise risk management within a large, complex and highly regulated organisation.
  • Demonstrated success developing and maturing enterprise risk frameworks, risk appetite statements and enterprise risk profiles.
  • Experience advising Executives, Boards and Board Committees, supported by strong analytical capability and high-quality risk reporting.
  • A proven ability to integrate risk management into organisational strategy, business planning and major change initiatives.
  • Experience in business continuity, organisational resilience and/or enterprise assurance.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build risk capability across a decentralised organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing professional teams.
  • Tertiary qualifications in risk management, business, governance, finance, health, law or another relevant discipline.

Experience in healthcare or aged care, an understanding of the Australian regulatory environment, and experience supporting significant organisational transformation will be highly regarded.

Things that work for you:

  • A national leadership opportunity shaping enterprise risk, resilience and strategic decision-making across St Vincent’s.
  • Meaningful work supporting the delivery of excellent and compassionate health and aged care.
  • An inclusive, purpose-led organisation guided by Compassion, Justice, Integrity and Excellence.
  • Salary packaging options and access to a range of employee benefits, including wellbeing support, discounted health insurance, retail and travel offers.
  • The opportunity to work with senior leaders across a diverse national organisation and contribute to our shared vision as One St Vincent’s.
