Job Description:

The Environmental Sustainability Line of Business is responsible for setting the strategy and leading the planning and development of environmental projects to achieve The Walt Disney Company’s (TWDC) environmental goals, which include emissions, watershed stewardship, waste, materials, and sustainable design.

 

The Environmental Professional will cultivate environmental awareness with Cast across the WDW property, providing support and consulting on area specific project implementations to reduce the environmental impact of Walt Disney World operations, in alignment with The Walt Disney Company’s sustainability goals.  They will facilitate the people side of change across all areas, including actions that require process and equipment changes, impacting all leaders and Cast.  They will be driving environmental efficiencies such as expanding recycling infrastructure, reducing plastics, water stewardship, and energy efficiencies by creating trusting relationships with champions, addressing implementation risks, celebrating successes and providing on-going support as Cast adapt to changes that continue past implementation. They will partner with Cast from all operations, business units and support areas to implement and sustain the programs driving towards Disney's sustainability goals. 

 

What You Will Do

• Work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Influence and support leaders across all levels and lines of business to build foundational understanding of Disney’s environmental goals and advance sustainability initiatives.
• Support efforts to address environmental challenges by participating in site walkthroughs with area leaders and contributing to follow-up and improvement recommendations.
• Implement engagement strategies by guiding necessary behavioral and process changes creatively and cost-effectively.
• Engage and collaborate with local partners supporting daily operations to drive consistency across Walt Disney World and ensure smooth project turnover from the Environmental Sustainability line of business to the operation.
• Interact with and influence complex, diverse partners (including Operating Participants, Disney Vacation Club and other DX Business Units)
• Support DX segment strategic planning and consolidated roll up of segment environmental initiatives.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of business operations with strong problem solving, leadership, communication and influencing skills 
• Proven track record in excellent negotiation, communication and engagement at multiple levels, with both technical and non-technical colleagues 
• Conflict management skills to negotiate alignment with competing business priorities
• Experienced leading and facilitating meetings with partners to ensure an understanding of the company culture change and develop a change adoption plan
• Creatively resolve problems – sometimes in areas outside your realm of expertise – and work within a dynamic, sometimes ambiguous atmosphere
• Ability to spend up to an average 20-30 hours per week doing field work and hosting partners onstage and backstage.
• Ability to perform field studies, handling waste in a variety of different weather conditions and comfortably lift 40 pounds.
• Able to work occasional irregular hours to accommodate international time zones (estimate 5-10 hours per month – Florida, California, France, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working within WDW and/or TWDC with proven relationships
• Understanding of TWDC environmental goals and targets
• Familiarity with local and international Sustainability disclosure and regulatory frameworks
• Experience developing or executing sustainability strategies such as emissions reductions, zero waste, water stewardship, or biodiversity. 

Required Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in sustainability, engineering, communications, business or related field 

Preferred Education

• Sustainability related certification or educational experience
• Project Management related certification or educational experience
• Zero Waste Certification or related experience

The hiring range for this position in Florida is $73,800.00-$101,400.000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
