The opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager, Application Architect to join our Technology Strategy and Transformation team supporting our banking team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing innovative technology solutions that align with our clients' business strategies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that drive digital transformation and enhance operational efficiency.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end architecture and design of enterprise application solutions, translating business and functional requirements into scalable, secure, and resilient implementations that address complex business challenges and enable digital transformation.
• Partner with clients and business stakeholders to understand strategic objectives, assess current-state application landscapes, and define future-state architecture roadmaps.
• Develop and maintain application architecture frameworks, standards, and governance processes aligned with enterprise technology strategies and industry best practices.
• Evaluate existing application portfolios and identify opportunities for modernization, optimization, cloud migration, and technology innovation.
• Provide strategic guidance on emerging technologies, application platforms, integration patterns, and modernization approaches.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business, product, engineering, data, security, and infrastructure teams, to ensure successful solution delivery.
• Lead application architecture reviews and provide oversight to ensure adherence to architectural principles, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage and mentor architects, developers, and technical consultants, fostering technical excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.
• Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, acting as a trusted advisor throughout transformation initiatives.
• Drive solution delivery by identifying risks, resolving architectural challenges, and ensuring successful implementation outcomes.
• Support business development activities, including client presentations, solution design workshops, proposal development, and thought leadership initiatives.
• Contribute to the growth of the Technology Strategy & Transformation practice by developing methodologies, reusable assets, and leading innovation efforts.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in technology architecture, design, and implementation, with a focus on digital transformation in a financial services environment.
• Proven experience as an application / technical Architect.
• Proven experience leading large, high-performing cross-functional teams through complex technology delivery lifecycles, including mentoring and unblocking team members, managing delivery risks, and driving client requirements and implementation outcomes to completion.
• Strong understanding of cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and analytically.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in a consulting environment is highly desirable.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, etc.) are a plus.
• Ability to own and guide detailed solution design from business requirements through API contracts, data flows, integration patterns, deployment models, observability, operational support, and production readiness.
• Experience working alongside lead developers to make code design, framework, integration, error handling, security, data modelling, and non-functional requirement decisions throughout delivery rather than limiting architecture involvement to high level design documents.
• Ability to define coding standards, review critical implementation choices and team output, enforce reusable patterns, challenge unnecessary complexity, and ensure consistent code quality. Able to connect individual features and the broader codebase to business outcomes while maintaining alignment with the approved solution design, security expectations, test strategy, and long-term maintainability goals.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimize AWS Lambda execution, and reduce costs through efficient resource utilization.
• Experience leading the investigation and resolution of complex design, integration, performance, deployment, and production issues by reading logs, reviewing code, tracing event flows, isolating root causes, and making clear remediation decisions with development teams.
• Experience partnering with DevOps engineers to define CI/CD pipeline configurations, deployment gates, infrastructure as code structures, environment promotion strategies, monitoring, logging, rollback approaches, and release readiness controls.
• Ability to create comprehensive technical documentation for APIs, architecture decisions, and operational procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to develop junior developers through practical coaching on AWS best practices, Node.js development patterns, code quality, and troubleshooting techniques.

EY reports salary ranges in accordance with applicable provincial pay transparency legislation. Individual salaries within the anticipated salary ranges noted below are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skill sets.

• Toronto: $114,000 to $160,000
