Job Summary

The Production Specialist for Global Unscripted Original Production is a multi-faceted role within National Geographic that supports the creative, operational, and administrative needs of the Unscripted Production team across New York, London, and Washington, D.C.

Working closely with the Senior Vice President, production executives, Development, and PMD, this role serves as a central hub for managing the department’s production slate, workflows, information, and priorities. The Production Specialist provides executive support while maintaining project trackers and databases, coordinating meetings and key production milestones, and preparing presentations and other materials for internal and external stakeholders.

The Production Specialist also contributes to the creative process through research, idea generation, editorial feedback on outlines, scripts, and edits, competitive and industry analysis, creative brainstorming, and the development of written and visual materials that support projects from development through production.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and collaborative, with exceptional attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment, and a strong passion for non-fiction storytelling and the complex process of bringing world-class National Geographic television and streaming productions to audiences around the globe.

Responsibilities

The Production Specialist supports the creative, operational, and organizational management of National Geographic’s global Unscripted Production division, helping move a complex slate of high-profile television and streaming productions from development through delivery.

  • Coordinate priorities, project information, meetings, schedules, and communications across internal teams and external production partners.

  • Manage schedules, travel arrangements, and internal travel and entertainment budget needs.

  • Maintain project trackers, databases, and key production information to support department workflows.

  • Prepare presentations and written materials for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the creative and editorial process through research, script and cut review, brainstorming, and presentation development.

  • Bring strong production fluency, editorial judgment, and organizational discipline to a fast-moving environment.

  • Help ensure the division operates efficiently and delivers ambitious, world-class National Geographic storytelling.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in television, streaming, or digital media.

  • Direct unscripted production experience highly desired.

  • Strong understanding of the production lifecycle.

  • Demonstrated editorial experience reading scripts and outlines and reviewing cuts.

  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and project management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong administrative, creative, research, and presentation skills.

  • Sound judgment and a genuine passion for premium non-fiction storytelling.

  • Candidate must live within a reasonable distance to the office 7 Hudson NYC. This role requires someone onsite 4 days a week.

  • Flexibility to support an “all hands on deck” team environment, including additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

  • High-bandwidth approach with relevant unscripted production fluency.

  • Strong executive presence and judgment.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree or higher.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $62,400 to $83,600 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
