Job Description
Do you want to use AI and machine learning to make products safer for hundreds of millions of customers? Amazon's Compliance Shared Services team is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to build ML automation and AI models that help keep customers safe. You will leverage large language models (LLMs) and small language models (SLMs) to create intelligent systems that automate compliance controls at global scale.
Your work will directly shape how Amazon identifies and mitigates product safety risks, using real product data to build automation that protects both buyers and selling partners. You will collaborate closely with program teams and a dedicated science team, designing and delivering solutions that make compliance faster, more accurate, and more cost-efficient. If you are excited about applying AI to real-world safety challenges, we would love to hear from you.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain microservices hosted in AWS that power ML-driven compliance automation, producing architecture designs and ensuring software quality through code reviews and documentation.
- Build, release, and iterate on AI models and our services in partnership with science and program teams.
- Research and implement solutions for technically ambiguous problems, balancing tradeoffs in scalability, maintainability, and performance while keeping operational costs in check.
- Collaborate with program teams and internal customers to understand compliance requirements, translating business needs into well-architected software that delivers measurable safety improvements.
- Mentor fellow engineers through code reviews, onboarding, and knowledge sharing, contributing to a team culture of continuous learning and technical growth.
A day in the life
You will start your morning with a daily scrum, syncing with your team on progress and blockers. Throughout the week you will join operational reviews, backlog refinement sessions, and biweekly sprint planning to keep delivery on track. Much of your time is spent heads-down writing code and designing solutions, but you will also pair with scientists to refine model behavior and occasionally meet with compliance program customers to understand their evolving needs. Your manager supports you with a weekly one-on-one focused on your priorities and career development.
