WHAT YOU WILL DO:
As the Staff Test Engineer you will be an active member of the Biomechanics Research Team. You will be responsible for the testing of medical devices for regulatory submissions globally. You will perform and support research on products, support the registration of products across the world, provide technical mentoring to the engineering staff, and lead cross-functional teams to advance the research to support product registration and marketing.
Specifically, the Staff Test Engineer will:
- Partner with new product development, sustaining, and marketing teams to deliver research to support products.
- Develop research results including testing and computational modeling to support projects.
- Work with the sustaining regulatory team to support international registrations with research results, documentation, and responses to questions.
- Partner with the laboratory engineers and computational modeling team to develop research results to support products.
- Evaluate the research landscape for products and develop plans for efficient data collection to support multiple registrations or marketing needs.
- Increase the technical expertise of the division through education and mentoring.
- Review technical documents, protocols, and reports.
- Collaborate with internal partners to support innovation in product, testing, and marketing of research results.
- Utilize FEA (Finite Element Analyses) systems to support the analytical assessment of designs in advance of physical testing.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and direction for the Biomechanics Research Team as a subject matter expert in spinal medical devices.
- Utilize advanced knowledge of surgical procedures to develop clinically relevant research methodologies to ensure product quality.
- Identify and support the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required.
- Follow fundamental industry standards, design requirements, and test strategies which apply to regulatory requirements.
- Actively participate on cross-functional design teams to support the lifecycle of testing needs.
- Utilize the PLM system for management of documents and ensure quality practices in documentation and research outcomes.
- Mentor engineers in best practices, industry trends, and other engineering skills.
WHAT YOU NEED:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
- 4+ years of experience in engineering with a focus in new product development and/or test engineering.
- Experience working in a regulated industry.
Preferred
- Experience in the medical device industry.
- Master’s degree in engineering.
- Ability to handle assignments of high technical complexity.
- Advanced data analytics skills and project management skills including the ability to manage test development, timelines, budgets, and goals.
- Excellent technical communication skills / very good general communication skills.
- High level of experience and demonstrated proficiency with design controls within a regulated industry.
- High level of experience with a parametric CAD package (ProE, Creo or SolidWorks preferred).
- Moderate level of technical ability with computational modeling and simulation software.
