ABC News Newsgathering Operations is responsible for all logistics, transmission and engineering for day-to-day news coverage, as well as special projects. You will rotate between all Newsgathering Operations departments, helping with support functions and learning what's involved with bringing together various technologies to facilitate the telling of news stories from the field. You will be exposed to all areas of field operations; including transmission, field equipment, crew coordination and various IP based broadcast solutions. You will be expected to be hands-on, and your responsibilities will increase as you learn throughout the internship (and based on previous experience).
A Day in the Life…
- Rotate between different departments, including News Acquisition, Live Streaming, Logistics, and Field Engineering. This provides you with a comprehensive view of the entire news production workflow.
Supporting producers and clients in crafting compelling stories. This involves helping to organize the necessary resources, equipment, and personnel for the production process.
Responsible for booking crews, handling incoming feeds, and tracking equipment. This ensures that the necessary personnel and tools are in place for successful broadcasts.
Organizing and maintaining information in critical systems used for transmission, crew coordination, and equipment tracking. This contributes to the smooth functioning of operations.
What we are looking for…(Basic Qualifications)
A strong ability to collaborate and be part of a team, but also be self-sufficient.
A basic understanding of television production
Proficiency in Excel and cloud productivity suites (Google Docs I Office 365)
Leadership position in a student television station, video production club or other related extracurricular activities
(Preferred Qualifications)
Video production experience (educational or professional)
Computer networking and/or software coding experience
Required Education:
- To be eligible for this internship you must be a junior, senior or a recent graduate (within 6 months of your graduation date) pursing a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Film/Television or a related field
Additional Details:
Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess unrestricted work authorization
Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
Must be able to work on-site in New York City and provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are January 2024 - June 2024. Candidate must be available to work 40 hours/week in Eastern Standard time for the duration of the internship- could be nights, weekends and possible overnights
